William Gaitens

William Gaitens Obituary

Gaitens, William Henry, age 86 years, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and passed away March 28, 2026, at the Cypress Regional Hospital.  A private graveside service will take place in May 2026.

Bill is survived by his wife Sylvia Gaitens; sons Donald and David Gaitens, daughter Jennifer Gaitens; stepchildren: Justin Hanline, Cory Hanline, and Roxanne (Loren) Andreae; grandson Liam Gaitens; brother Bob (Lenore) Gaitens; sister Frances (Michael) Klugman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother Mary in 1994, father William in 2004, all of his grandparents, and all of his aunts and uncles.

Bill was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and attended school in Ottawa.  In 1970, he married his first wife and they later divorced in 2010.  On August 11, 2012, Bill married Sylvia (nee Gray) in Swift Current.

Bill was employed with MET Life in Ottawa, the federal government of Canada in several positions and locations from 1962 until he retired in 1995 at the age of 56.  After his retirement, he worked with Corps of Commissionaires in Yorkton from 1995-2011.

He was an active member of Scouts, Ski Patrol in Quebec, Canadian Armed Forces Reserve Force - Battery Commander in Yorkton, driver trainer in Saskatchewan, Royal Canadian Legion Member for over 50 years, Anavets in Yorkton where he served as president and vice president at the provincial level, Cadets serving as officer in the air, army, or sea cadets depending on where he was needed.  Bill had his private pilot’s license, and enjoyed fishing and golfing.  He was also a hunter and firearm safety training instructor with reserves.
