Wilfred Roy Pearce

Wilfred Roy Pearce of Abbey, died peacefully on June 15, 2022 at the Meadows in Swift Current at the age of 92. Roy was born on July 13, 1929. He grew up on the family farm north of Abbey. He attended school at Ararat Springs School. When he finished school he worked on a couple of different farms in Alberta, then back in Saskatchewan for a few years. He married Betty Lou Brown of Verlo, SK in April, 1954 and they moved to Sceptre, where he worked on the farm of Harry Whiteside. In 1965 Roy took a job with Federal Grain Ltd in Abbey, which later became Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, where he worked until he retired. He stayed active on the family farm after he retired and was very active in the community. Roy was Mayor of Abbey for 29 years, was a member of the Abbey Legion, served on the Board of Rolling Hills Health District and was a 25 year member of SUMA. Roy enjoyed woodworking, gardening, antique tractors and tractor pulls. He and Betty spent holidays camping and travelling in their camper and motorhome. He mostly loved the time that he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roy is survived by his children Joyce, Ellen (Kevin), Wesley (Joyce); his grandchildren Scott (Sarah), Shannon (Matt), Lee (Amanda), Chantel (Nick), Chelby (Thomas) and Wade; 9 great grandchildren - Gracelyn and Corbin, Alaina and Callia, Harlan and Kashtyn and Delilah, Farrah and Bently, as well as  his sister Audrey, sister-in-law Lavina (Tony), sister-in-law Norma and brother-in-law Darcy (Diane). Roy is predeceased by his wife Betty, mother Jessie, father Ernest, brothers Victor, David, Ken, Ronnie and his sister Olive. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and caregivers at the Meadows, House 18, for the excellent care he received there. 
A graveside service was held on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Abbey Cemetery with coffee and fellowship from 3:00 - 5:00 in the Abbey Legion Hall.
