Victor Pederson Obituary

PEDERSON: Victor Raymond age 88 years, passed away peacefully at The Meadows in Swift Current, on June 15, 2021. Victor was predeceased by his wife Ruby (Steinbach); common law partners Bev Abraham and Audrey Lambie; parents Otto and Mabel Pederson; six brothers and their wives, Gordon, Emil (Leta), James (Flo), Mervin, Stanley (Evelyn), Merrill (Margaret); and his sister Doris and her husband Ralph Scriven. Vic is loving remembered by his brother Harvey (Leanne) of Calgary, many nieces and nephews, and his good friends.
Vic was born on the family farm northeast of Abbey on November 27, 1932, the seventh son in a family of eight boys and one girl. Vic attended Venlo School, walking over four miles each way in the summer, and by team and sleigh in the winter. He then attended Abbey School when they moved to town after losing their father Otto in 1941. Everyone in the family learned to work at a young age, and Vic was no exception, delivering milk in Abbey with his pony, and then working for many different farmers and ranchers in the area. He also went to Alberta for awhile, working at a ranch near Bassano, and for an oil drilling company out of Calgary. From 1953 to 1977 he worked for Cabri Co-op, delivering bulk fuel to farmers in the Abbey area. From 1977 until 1989 he operated the Esso bulk fuel dealership at Lancer. After retiring, he lived in Cabri for several years and then moved to Swift Current. Vic was well known for his dogs; he had two, at different times, and both were named Smokey. They always rode in the fuel truck with him, and he trained them to perform many amazing tricks. He also a good horse named Ginger, and later a pony named Bandit and a mule called Fred who travelled and performed with Vic at many places. He had a chariot team and then a chuckwagon outfit, and followed the circuit for a number of years. Vic had many interests and hobbies, and spent time in his retirement building wooden replicas of old farm implements. He liked to visit with people, tell stories and jokes, and he really loved to dance.
