Vernon Alvin Spetz, age 88, of Swift Current and formerly of Beverly, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, with family by his side.
Vern was born on March 8, 1936, in Shaunavon, SK. He was raised on the family farm in the Admiral district where he attended Congress School. Vern ventured off the farm at age 17 and worked many jobs from detailing cars & pumping gas at Newton Motors, to then working in the garage. He worked as a mechanic at several garages before starting his own business in Beverly. Eventually, Vern worked as a heavy-duty mechanic for Mobile Oil for many years.
He met Solange "Sally" Filion at a dance, and they were married on February 8, 1958, and settled in Swift.
In 1963, they moved to Beverly, SK, to raise their growing family of boys. Roger, Dan, Alan, Ken, and Calvin grew up learning the basics of mechanics as they helped their dad in the garage.
Vern retired in 1997, and in 2010 Vern and Sally moved to Swift Current and settled into city life.
Vern was always open to having a visit to pass time along with working in the yard and garden, square dancing, or tinkering in the garage.
Over the past few years, Vern faced some health issues that he met head on, and he never let them define who he was.
Vern is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sally. sons: Roger (Sharon), Christine (Alex), Melissa (Tyler), Steven (Kelsey), and their families. Dan, Kevin (Kayleen) and family, Christina & family. Ken (Thao).
Alan (Vicki), Keagan (Bonnie), Sara (Brent) and family, Shane and family, Chad and family, Calvin, Klyrissa and family; sister Agnes Ross; sisters-in-law: Mariette Filion, Mary Filion and Joan Spetz. Along with eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
