Theresa Belza Obituary

Theresa Belza passed away peacefully at Cypress Regional Hospital on April 29, 2026, after a brief illness.

Theresa was born on July 23, 1934, in Masefield, SK to Frank and Josephine Magdich.  Theresa married Carl Belza in October 1952, and remained on the Belza Ranch in the Rosefield District for the next forty years.  During those years, Carl and Theresa welcomed three children, Charlie, Debbie, and David. Though life was not always easy on the ranch, Theresa loved the wide open spaces, and often spoke fondly of her lush garden on the edge of the Frenchman River. Since moving off of the ranch, Theresa enjoyed many return visits to the Masefield district, a place that she longed to revisit, and one that always remained dear to her heart. Theresa enjoyed farming, gardening, and baking throughout her lifetime.

Following the sale of the Ranch and their retirement in 1992, the Belza Ranch became part of the Grasslands National Park, something that Theresa was very proud of. Theresa and Carl moved to Swift Current where they purchased a house on Walsh Trail and an acreage just outside the city limits, near the site of the Bronco bus tragedy. Years later, Theresa was approached about using a piece of her land for the Bronco Memorial, something she was more than willing to agree to. This gave Theresa a great sense of pride. In her last few years, her eyesight deteriorated, and Theresa moved to Riverview in 2017, and then transitioned to the Foyer in Ponteix.

Theresa is survived by her sons, Charlie and David, her sisters Mary (Sven) Deforse, and Jeanette (Ron) Patton, and by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Josephine Magdich, her husband Carl, her daughter Debbie Stevens, and her brother and sister in law Frank Jr. (Dixie) Magdich.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1555 Memorial Drive, Swift Current, SK. The graveside service will be followed by a lunch at Christ the Redeemer Parish, 1850 Springs Gate, Swift Current, SK.

The family would like to give their sincere thanks to all those who cared for Theresa in her past few years, especially at Riverview in Swift Current, and at the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ponteix.
