Susie Grose, age 82 of Wymark, Saskatchewan, passed away Thursday September 21 at 6:30pm. Surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born on August 3, 1941 on the family farm 3 miles west of Wymark Saskatchewan, to John and Sarah Fehr. Her homemaking skills were developed at a young age as she helped at home, cooking, cleaning, and tending to her younger siblings. At the age of thirteen she babysat for a young family near the Duncairn Dam as their mother was in the hospital having another baby. Sue had some trouble keeping charge of one of the older boys, so she tied him to the bedpost so he would listen to her! At the age of fourteen, Sue took another job looking after her uncle’s children for the wages of room and board.
From there, Sue rented a room in town, and she worked as a waitress and a salesclerk at Christie Grant’s clothing store. It was about this time that she met the love of her life - Larry Grose.
Larry and Sue were joined in marriage on August 5, 1961, at the First United Church in Swift Current. It was 104 F in the shade and the Jello was melting. (We have all heard this story many, many times!)
On October 9, 1963, Rhonda Susan was born, and Rodney Larry came soon after on July 7, 1965. It was around this time that the preacher from the Emmaus Mennonite church came for a visit. Sue gave her life to Jesus Christ as her personal saviour on that day. In November 1967, Ryan John was born. He had many complications and passed away 2 hours after his birth. On July 21, 1971, Trenton Irvin was born to make the Grose family complete. Her children all married Christian spouses, and her 9 grandchildren were born from 1989 – 2000. She grew in her faith as she raised her family. In her middle-aged years she enjoyed studying the bible with ladies who became dear friends. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her memorizing and reciting the entire book of James.
Susie loved her family with all her heart. She always had a warm meal, sweets, and the softest homemade buns. You didn’t have to ask her; she would openly share that as a fact. She would always be waving you in from her back step, no matter what time of the day or night. Everyone was welcomed with a holler and a smile!
She was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2020. She fought hard to stay with her family. And God allowed her to celebrate 4 more of her grandchildren’s weddings, and the births of 8 more great-grandchildren.
In the spring of 2023 her cancer returned. When treatment options were not available she was brought home to Wymark. Her family cared for her in her last months until her peaceful passing on September 21, 2023. She lived and died surrounded by the love of her family.
Sue is survived by her husband of 62 years, Larry. Her children; Rhonda (Brent) Wittman, Rod (Allyson) Grose, Trent (Stacey) Grose. 9 grandchildren: Shayne (Kelsey) Grose, Karmyn (Nolan) Carlson, Reiley (Chantal) Grose, Kelsey (Brandon) Krahn, Taylor (Kira) Grose, Jordan (Sydney) Wittman, Rhett (Chloe) Grose, Courtney Grose, Michael (Raissa) Grose and 10 Great Grandchildren. Her brother Peter (Norma) Fehr and sister Marion (Harvey) Engel, 1 brother-in-law Keith (Tina) Grose, Harvey and Linda Seib, Betty Fehr, Marilyn and Lyndon Appleby and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sue was predeceased by one son in infancy Ryan John Grose, her parents John O and Sarah Fehr, Parents-in-law, Irvin and Lydia Grose. Her brothers Roy Fehr, Bill Fehr, John N Fehr, and her sisters Verna Fehr in infancy, Betty Seib and Helen Neudorf.
2Timothy 4:7-8 KJV - I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
To reach the end of this life with your children near, knowing with certainty that a reunion in eternity lies before you- you have finished well.
