Stuart Sletten Obituary

SLETTEN: Stuart Lyle age 78 years of Maple Creek, SK passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Centre in Maple Creek. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday August 27, 2021 from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating and read the eulogy. The interment service was held at Bethany Cemetery in Hazlet, SK. The music was provided by Arlie Neufeld, ushers were Larry Sletten and Duane Sletten, the pallbearers were Curtis Svenson, Larry Svenson, Brad Levorson, Leonard Dokken, Verol Smith, Dawson Smith and honorary pallbearers are all those who shared in Stuart's life. Stuart is survived by his son Trevor (Sara) Sletten and their children T.J. (Hannah Hughes), Cole, Elih, Amani, and Evie; and his daughter Deanna Sletten (Jarrod Fong). He is also survived by his siblings, sister May (Keith) Plewis and their children Kim (Harry) Plewis-Delaney their children Bryn (Emily Jansen) Delaney, Rourke and Ciara; Dale (Carolyn), Danny (Kerri) and their sons Nathan (Maddy) with their son Kingston, and Christian; and Debbie (Richard) Plewis-Lewis. His brother Mervin Sletten and his son Victor (Shona) with their son and daughter. His brother Russell Sletten and his children Pauline (Tony) Fuarez and their daughter Sophia, and Wade (Mam) and their children Leah and Owen. His brother-in-law Terry Libbey and his children Jodi (Michael) Tische and their three boys, Leanne (Mike) Belvin and their two boys and one girl, and Suzanne. His sister Norma (Dave) Gallagher and their children Traci (Stu) Barton and Ryan; and brothers Ron (Tom) Sletten, and Ian (Maxine) and their sons Alex and Devon. He is predeceased by his father Sandford Sletten in 1976; mother Marjorie in 1996; common-law spouse Doris Hellings in 2020; sister Lynne Libbey in 2019; paternal grandparents John and Marie Sletten; maternal grandparents Melvin and Estelle Olsgard; and niece Laurie Sletten in 1991. Stuart was born in the Cabri Union Hospital on October 22, 1942 and he attended school in Hazlet. He and Doris Hellings were in a common-law relationship and he drove the bus for Hazlet School and the bulk truck for Prairie Gas (later called CiGas) in Moose Jaw, SK. Stuart's many hobbies include hunting and fishing and he was a member of the Wilderness Wings a fly-in fishing club in Meadow Lake, SK. He also enjoyed farm auctions, custom combining, driving the grain truck, Agribition, and Buffalo Days in Regina, SK, brandings, curling bonspiels, hockey games and sports days, parades, Canada Days, and fairgrounds. Stuart was always willing to lend a helping hand. He worked hard to have a new 1/2 ton truck every two years, hard working and skilled at handling machinery as well as repair them.
