Stewart Garrett

GARRETT: Stewart MacDougall (Mac) of Pennant, SK passed away on Friday November 8, 2019 at Cypress Regional Hospital at the age of 79 years. The celebration of life ceremony was held on November 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Pennant Memorial Hall. He is survived by his four children Sandra (Lyle), Maryanne (Jim), Corey (Deanna) and Dean (Leah); 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law Joyce, Fran and Gerry (Gord); and one brother-in-law Kevin (Marlene); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Shirley; parents Howard and Christina; brothers and sisters-in-law Bill (Mabel), Bob (Betty), Harold, Jack, Dick (Janice) and Don; and predeceased by his best friend Randy Valentine. Mac was born April 11, 1940 at Cabri, SK.  He grew up on the busy family farm in Pennant and attended both Grampian and Pennant Schools. He left school and worked at various jobs until he found his true calling - farming. He married Shirley Hursh on September 6, 1963. Together they farmed, ranched and raised a family. Through the years they subsidized the farm with many ventures. Garrett Abattoirs and KP Outfitting being the longest and most bountiful. They met many friends and helped many neighbors. Many a happy hour was spent reminiscing in his big chair with his drink of rum in his hand. He lost the love of his life in 2007. Mac stepped back from the farm and let his sons take more responsibility, but always remained in the action.  "Chief" was the affectionate nickname bestowed upon him by the family! In 2015 he lost his best friend and comrade Randy Valentine. These losses and his failing health took a toll and in January of 2019 the family moved Mac into Senior Housing in Cabri. With continuing failing health he was moved to the Prairie Health Centre in August. Special thanks to the staff there for all their loving care Mac received during his stay.
