Steiva Grant of Orkney,  Sask, age 92 passed away on June 14, 2024 in the Swift Current Hospital.  The funeral service was held at 10:00 am,  June 21, 2024 from Christ the Redeemer Church in Swift Current, Saskatchewan with Father Lourdhu Bandhanadam officiating.  The organist was Glenna Switzer.   Special music selections were provided by daughter –in-law  Kathy Grant, grandsons  Kevin and Jessie Grant .  The eulogy was provided by granddaughters  Melissa Ellis,  Heather Painchaud and Stephanie Gross.   The readers were family members,  Samantha Grant,  Maureen Grant and Richa Grant.  Ushers were Wayne Andree and Syd Smailes of Orkney,  Sask.    The interment service was held at Masefield, Sask. in the Masefield Cemetery.  Pallbearers were  all of  her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Steiva was born in Rosefield, Sask on the family farm on May 1, 1932 to John and Mary Dukat, a Polish Immigrant family.  She was the oldest of five children.  At an early age , Steiva was helping out with the daily chores such as milking the cows,  gardening ,  preparation of meals, housework and looking after her younger siblings.  She enjoyed the farm life and embraced that way of life right up until her passing.

Steiva received her formal  education at the Rosefield School .  She spoke of the challenges when she first started school,  the language barriers,    the distance to travel,  the weather.  However, she overcame these challenges and enjoyed her days at school.  She completed from Grades  1-10 and decided to end her formal education and seek employment.  Steiva was hired by the Don and Verna Howlett family of  Orkney,  Sask. in 1951  . It was while Steiva  was working at Howletts that she met the love of her life, Gordon Grant .  After a year of courtship they were married on June 19, 1952.  In  1953, they welcomed a daughter, Maryann, and in 1955, they welcomed a son Steven.  Together, they raised their family and worked hard to build a  successful mixed  farm operation.   They also loved to dance and attended all the dances in the nearby communities of Orkney.  In 1975,  they joined the Val Marie Square Dance Club and danced for 27 years.  Their love of travelling was evident in their portfolio of travel destinations. Their journeys took them to England, Ontario, B.C., the Maritimes,  Alaska,  Hawaii,  California, and other areas of the USA .

Steiva had many interests and hobbies which included crocheting,  knitting , baking and sewing. She also enjoyed cooking.  She was an excellent cook and was always eager to feed everyone.  Although she had many interests and eagerly pursued them,  gardening,  flowers and yard work were her passion.  She grew big gardens and harvested and canned every year whatever her garden produced.  Her flower bed was an abundance of beauty with roses, lilies, peonies and every kind of annual flower that was available.  In 1987 she attended a greenhouse workshop.  Gordon willingly built her a small greenhouse and a new adventure began.  Bedding plants of every variety were started from vegetable to flowers.  Although this was a lot of work,   she found only pleasure and enjoyment.

Family is what mattered the most to Steiva.  Their farm was the gathering place for all family functions.  This included holiday celebrations,  as well as family celebrations.  She loved to plan family get togethers whether it was Christmas,  Easter, birthdays,  anniversaries,  reunions,  or just a family meal.  She took great pride in her family and all their accomplishments.  And as each grandchild got married and had children of their own,  she was equally delighted in her 13 great grandchildren and found lots of enjoyment when they came to visit.

In 2007 Steiva and Gordon bought a condo in Swift Current and spent their winters there.  But every spring they always came back to the farm and stayed till late fall.  She loved to plant her garden and work in her flower bed.   She  continued to come to the farm up until the fall  of 2022 when the decision to stay in the city was made.  Even though,  she was living at her condo in Swift Current,  she always wanted to know how the crops and cattle were doing.  She was always interested.  Her heart was always at the farm.

Steiva lived a great life right up until the last few months.  She loved her husband dearly for the 65 years they were together.  She was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, auntie, sister-in-law,  friend and neighbor.  She was loved by many and she will be missed.

Steiva is survived by her two children,  daughter Maryann and Tom Belza  and son  Steven and Kathy Grant,  her grandchildren Melissa and Brian Ellis  , Heather and Chad Painchaud,  Kevin and Maureen Grant,  Stephanie and Aaron Gross,  Kelly and Richa Grant,  Jessie and Samantha Grant,  her great  grandchildren,  Tyson, Colby and Evan Ellis,  Zak and Alex Painchaud,  Samantha and Sophie Grant,  Matthew and Mia Gross,  Aarya and Zoyaa Grant,  Max and Abigail Grant.  She is survived by her three sisters,  Liz and Tom Donnelly,  Mary and Phil Dillon,  Alfreda Meise,  her sister-in-law  Chris Dukat and numerous nieces and nephews.   She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2017 and  infant son Richard  in 1960.  Her parents,  John and Mary Dukat,  brother John ,   brothers-in-law  Jim and Jack Grant and Gerald Loewen,  sister-in- laws  Edna Loewen,  Sonny Grant,  and  Verona Grant  as well as other family members.
