Sonny Anderson Obituary

Eiliv (Sonny) Howard Anderson passed away on September 1, 2021 at the age of 87.  Sonny was born to Thore and Randine in 1934 on the farm west of Robsart, Saskatchewan. As in life, he remained fiercely independent in his final days. In July 1962, Sonny married Joy Brekhus.  They enjoyed 59 years of marriage and had two children, Jennifer and Jordan. Sonny firmly believed in never turning down an opportunity.  It was this optimism that led him from his birthplace on the home farm to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Farm Credit Corporation and advisor to Prime Ministers and Senators.  Along the way he took advantage of many opportunities.  In highlight he farmed, did commercial trucking, served on many boards, was a movie projectionist for the town of Robsart, wrote newspaper articles (under the pen name 'Cypress Cy'), served as director of the SSGA and SFA and helped found the Sask. Beef Information Center, was part owner of Warlodge Enterprises, was elected MLA for the Shaunavon Constituency and then served as Executive Director for the SK Liberal Association, and worked as Special Assistant to the Federal Minister of Agriculture.  Sonny was also a member of the Maple Creek Masonic Lodge, the Royal Canadian Legion (Maple Creek - Branch #75) and a lifetime member of MENSA.There is much more to his life but Sonny hated things dragging on, especially goodbyes.  Of his many ventures, he said in an interview with the Consul Museum, "I didn't plan anything, it just happened."Sonny is survived by his wife Joy (Brekhus), son and daughter-in-law Jordan and Masha (Petrovic) Anderson, grandsons Bjorn and Thor Anderson, and sister and brother-in-law Sharon (Brekhus) and Elmer Ebner.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; Laurie Ann (Nelson) and Tom Sutherland (Children Ashley and Amy), Darlene (Schafer) and David Nelson (Son Jesse), Naomi Brandt (Nelson, Children Pamela & Family, Jeremy & Family and Kim & Family), Annette Hester (Son Brayden), Amber Hester and Bill Hanson (Son Tsar), Arlene (Hubbs) and John-Paul Hester (Children Chantal and Calista), and Abbie (Hester) and Shane Skrove (Children Kaitlin and Hunter) and Leon Brekhus (nephew). Sonny was predeceased by his mom and dad Randine (Hanson) and Thore Albert Anderson, his sister and her husband Lorraine (Anderson) and Dick (Aylward) Nelson, his daughter Jennifer Anderson and brother-in-law Lance Brekhus. Sonny will be remembered at a service on September 7, 2021 at the Maple Creek Armoury at 2pm.  It will be followed by coffee and a lunch.  Sonny loved nothing more than chatting with friends and family over coffee.  So come have a visit and remember.
