Shirley Payne Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Noreen Payne (nee Carefoot)), aged 80 of Swift Current on August 16, 2021 following a short illness, with her beloved husband of 62 years, Jack,,by her side.
Shirley was born May 8, 1941 to Elmer and Lenora (Tessem) Carefoot.  She was the oldest of five children and grew up North of Beverly.  Shirley attended school in Beverly, Swift Current, and eventually moved to Regina to attend Hairdressing school. Upon her completion of hairdressing school she had a job waiting for her at the Charm beauty salon back in Swift Current, which she eventually purchased in 1965. Shirley met her husband, Jack Payne in grade 9 and they were married in 1959. Jack worked at Great West Tire, and eventually purchased the business as well (Later J&S Tire). Shirley and Jack would forever remain in Swift Current where they raised two children Randy and Laurie and travelled all over the world while running their businesses. She had many friends and family she kept in touch with over the years. Family was very important to her, especially her Grandchildren. She also was very fond of all her neighbors, including special neighbors Rick and Louise who always helped Shirley over the years and lifelong friends Helen Matthie and Gloria Pratt. Shirley was a generous and kind soul who would always have time to talk, tell jokes and loved to laugh. Shirley maintained her honesty and humour right to the end.
Shirley was an avid gardener and loved nothing more than spending hours in her meticulously maintained yard, fussing over her flowers, shrubs, trees and garden sculptures. She took great pride in her home and filled it with mementos of her and Jack's lifetime of travels from around the world, as well as her ever tasteful decor. Every item in Shirley's home told a story. She was known for hosting large gatherings of friends and family over the years and was always able to preserve her "museum." Anyone who visited her in her home can attest to this, having surely experienced an enthusiastic and detailed tour of the house and yard whether you wanted it or not.
Shirley will forever and lovingly be remembered by her husband, Jack, her daughter Laurie (Kim) Fowke, granddaughter Lindsay (Kyle) Thoreson, grandsons Tyler (Valerie) Payne and Chance (Teagan) Payne, daughter-in-law Liz Payne, great-grandchildren Veronica, Caitlyn, Harrison, Jack, Scarlett, and one more on the way, sisters Lorraine (Michael) McCourt, Karin Jefferies, brother Lloyd (Francine) Carefoot, brother-in-law Ron Payne, sister-in-law Bonnie Payne, along with many nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her son, Randy Payne, parents Elmer and Lenora Carefoot, sister Barbara Carefoot, parents-in-law Geoffrey and Hilda Payne, brother-in-law Bob Payne and sister-in-law Joyce Payne.
The family held a small gathering to say goodbye to Shirley. If inclined, donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
