Ruth Derksen

 Derksen, Ruth Rene Helena (Wiebe) age 95 of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away on October 14, 2022, at 4:45 am. The funeral service will be held on October 21, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor Lois Bukar officiating. Ruth is survived by children Matt Derksen (Elaine), Christy Krahn (Peter) and Julie Derksen (Kenton Lobe) and grandchildren Esther Derksen, Hannah Derksen, Naomi Derksen, Seth Krahn, Levi Krahn, Sophia Lobe and Simon Lobe. Ruth was predeceased by husband Peter Derksen (August 12, 2012), father John (Jack) Wiebe, Mother Agatha Wiebe, and brothers and sisters Lindsey, Rhona, Gilbert, and Anna (or as Ruth would have said- nearly everybody!) Ruth was born in Swift Current, SK, but grew up in the town of Wymark where her family owned the Wiebe General Store. She began teaching at 18 after a few short months at normal school. During the summer she continued her education after the family moved to Saskatoon. Ruth and Peter grew up together in Wymark, began dating in high school and were married on August 5, 1950. Ruth and Peter lived near Wymark where Ruth taught, and Peter worked for Farm Credit Corporation. During that time they built the present yard site and raised their family. In 1990, Ruth and Pete moved to Swift Current, when their son Matt and daughter-in-law Elaine began farming . Ruth had a gift for building strong relationships and friendships with people. She spent many hours listening to friends, family or grandchildren talk about their joys, griefs, or problems. She worked and volunteered at the church. She cooked many meals and spent hours on the phone in an effort to be a servant of God to others.
