Rosalynd Holtby Obituary

HOLTBY: Rosalynd Mary (Rusty) age 88 of the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ponteix, SK passed away suddenly on February 18, 2021. At her request, there will be no funeral or public memorial service, rather a private family service at a later date to celebrate her life and release her remains to the wind so she can go travelling as per her final wishes. Rusty was born in Winnipeg, MB on February 9, 1933. She spent her early childhood years in Manitoba, travelling to Wildwood, AB in 1950, where she met and married Thomas Holtby. Rusty has no known siblings as she was adopted as a baby and remained the sole child of that family, Alphonse and Nellie Pariesien. Rusty is predeceased by her adopted parents Alphonse and Nellie, and her son Spencer Stanley Holtby. Rusty is survived by her children Vince (Jackie) Holtby, Constance (Mike) Maffenbeier, Grant Leslie, Lynn (Larry) Trottier, Quinn (Debra) Holtby, Dan Holtby and Tracey Lee Clarke; her grandchildren Sherri, Kirstin, Cara, Kendra, Sterling, Hollie, Darwin, Dusty, Aleasha, Chancelor and Demie; her great grandchildren Tristen, Willow, Brody, Blaise, Tyseen, Knox and Kinsey. Rusty moved to Val Marie in 1966 and operated the Val Marie Hotel Café along with the help of her children, providing many meals to hungry traveler's and local residents of the town and nearby farming communities. Later she bought the Chinese restaurant in Val Marie and continued to provide delicious food to the public until her retirement from cooking. She moved to a farm in the Orkney district and took up a passion for gardening and flowers. In her later years, she added many beautiful flowers to her rock garden and loved spending time in her vegetable garden. She prepared and froze many of the delights from the garden, always having a deep freeze full of good nutritious food for the cold winter months. She moved to an apartment in Swift Current in May 2019 after failing health and the need to be closer to the doctors and hospital. She was only able to stay in her new home for 3 months before deteriorating health forced another move to the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home in Ponteix in August 2019. She remained in the caring loving hands of the nurses/care aides of the home until her passing on February 18th, 2021. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service in the summer of 2021 in Val Marie district where she spent many happy hours, cooking, visiting and playing cards. On behalf of the family members, we wish to thank everyone who was a friend, who spent time in the café, providing laughs and good natured fun, helping her in the later years, and generally spent time visiting with her at the coffee table. Donation's in Rusty's memory may be made to the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home P.O. Box 450 Ponteix, SK S0N 1Z0 where she spent her remaining years.
