Roosen Evelyn Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Evelyn Mae Roosen announce her passing on March 15, 2019 at the age of 76 after a short but extremely courageous battle with cancer.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 57 years Larry, her children Rick (Jaunita) and their children Sam, Jayden and Kade; Terry (Denise) and their children Megan, Madison and Riley; Alison (Garry) Peltier and their daughters Shelby and Paige. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister Carol Herzog, brother-in-law Dennis (Sue) Roosen and their families, very special lifelong friends Dale and Elita Moberg, as well as many more extended family and friends.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Walter and Mildred Herzog, father and mother-in-law Wilhelm and Irma Roosen, and brother-in-law Harvey Pister.

Evelyn was born December 31, 1942 to Walter and Mildred Herzog in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan and grew up in Webb. After school she took hairdressing/cosmetology in Regina, SK but was unable to pursue this as a career due to severe eczema. She worked as a telephone operator for Sask. Government Telephones in Swift Current and then later in the Gull Lake office.

On July 7, 1961 she married Larry Roosen at Grant Memorial United Church in Webb, SK and they settled on a farm near Antelope where they farmed, ranched and raised their family. They worked hard and lived a simple life. Besides being a farm wife, she was always busy running her kids to hockey, ball, skating, CGIT and numerous other activities. She served as the Webb UCW Secretary for over 20 years and even tried her hand at curling. She said “I’m not very good — I’ll throw last.”

Evelyn enjoyed gambling trips with her mom and sister, loved watching all kinds of sports especially curling and NASCAR. She had a quick wit and sense of humour right until the end. She was a great wife and mom and an awesome grandma to her eight grandchildren. She was so loved and will be missed by so many.

At her request there will be no formal funeral service. A private family service will be held at St. John’s cemetery in Antelope at a later date.

Evelyn’s family would like to thank Dr. Claire Kozroski, Gull Lake HomeCare nurses and the staff at Clover House at the Meadows in Swift Current for their excellent and compassionate care.

Memorial donations in Evelyn’s memory can be made to the Webb Community Hall.
