Phyllis Olsen

OLSEN: Phyllis Eileen (nee Ilett) age 93 of Cabri, SK passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Prairie Health Care Centre in Cabri. Phyllis was born on March 2, 1927 in Gull Lake, SK to Fred and Margaret Ilett of Hazlet, SK. Phyllis was the second child of five in her family. She attended Bloomville School in the Hazlet-Verlo district. Mom grew up on the family farm six and a half miles southwest of Hazlet. She grew up with her two brothers and two sisters. She lived through the "Dirty 30's" which she often told us many stories about. She is predeceased by her parents; two brothers; husband Emel; and great grandson Nixin. Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her six children Vernon, Cindy (Richard), Renita (Greg), Loretta (Rick), Greg, and Darcy (Kari); 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mom loved to garden, sew, crochet, and babysit her grandchildren. Mom played Tile Rummy, Chinese Checkers and Bingo. She absolutely loved yellow roses. Mom told us that she had always wanted to be a nurse; she was busy raising her family so she didn't persue that career. The closest she got was volunteering at the nursing home (PHCC) which she was very dedicated to. Mom helped out with the clothing rummage sale at the United Church for many years. Mom cherished her grandkids. She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren whom she loved deeply. They all enjoyed Gramma's many stories which were very entertaining and hilarious. We all hold these stories close to our hearts. Mom was very proud that she had celebrated her 93rd birthday "I outlived them all" she would say with a big smile. "Philly" enjoyed her home at PHCC. She kept the staff entertained with her witty humour. A special thank you to the staff for making her last years  comfortable and enjoyable. At mom's request there will be no formal funeral service.
