He attended school at Wiwa View for elementary grades, where there were 40 plus students from grades one to ten. After public school he attended Swift Current Collegiate Institute for grades nine and ten. While attending school in Swift Current he joined the Air Cadets. He was always very proud of his accomplishment. He returned to Hallonquist for the remainder of his school years. A commercial course was taken in Swift Current which led to a book keeper position with the Sask Wheat Pool, Livestock Division. Orville was united in marriage with Dorothy Charlotte Nelson on October 3, 1951 at Central Luthern Church in Moose Jaw, SK. Shortly after, Orville and Dorothy returned to the homestead to become full time farmers. 70 plus years of marriage have given them a good life. He played senior ball in Neidpath and played old time baseball with the Hodgeville Gravelrocks to the age of 72. He started a minor baseball league in Hallonquist, taught Junior Sportsman 4-H and was a leader in 4-H Beef. He skated and played hockey on an outdoor rink. Their team was known as Hallonquist Hockey Hounds. From hockey and baseball he then started curling in Neidpath and Hallonquist on natural ice. He later curled in the Swift Current Men's Curling League. He belonged to the Swift Current Bowling League during his retirement. He also enjoyed a game of golf. He was a Sask Wheat Pool Committee Member and a strong supporter of the Cooporatives and was a member of the Community Baptist Church. He was a life member of the Hodgeville Elks Lodge, Vanguard Masonic Lodge and Swift Current Shrine Club. Ongoing member of Hallonquist Town and Country Club, Orville attended all Hallonquist Rodeo's up until 2022. Special events in Orville and Dorothy's life was a trip to Norway and Sweden in 1990. They visited the birthplace of Orville's parents in Norway. Then in Sweden they visited the birth place of Dorothy's father. Many relatives were met, it was a dream come true. Their 25th Wedding Anniversary was spent in Hawaii. Bus trips to Alaska, Texas, Prince Rupert, the Maritimes and many short trips were made. After battling prostate cancer and having four stints into his heart he decided to slow down. Ten years ago Dorothy and he bought a condo on Cypress Drive. Today they reside at Riverview Estates, but still maintained a home at the farm. At Riverview they enjoyed bingo, cards, dancing and many other activities. The last chapter of his life was spent at the Meadows. He very soon called it home. He participated in all the events and excelling in most. His past time at the Meadows was crib and word search. On July 19, 2022 at 12:30 PM he passed peacefully with his love holding his hand. We are all better people because we knew him and because he loved us.
