OLSEN: Orville Raymond, age 90 of Swift Current, Sk. passed away on March 20, 2020. Orville was born April 24, 1929, on the Hjermenrude homestead in the Leinan District, North of Swift Current, Sk. as the third child and only son of Ole and Alice Olsen. He met his wife, Myrtle (O'Neil), while she attended school with his sisters and they were married on April 25, 1952. Together they had three sons: Martin (1954), Brian (1957), and Alan (1961). Orville was a farmer for all of his life. His farming career began on the family farm near Simmie, Sk. when he was fifteen years old. He was fortunate to watch agriculture evolve as he began farming plowing fields with a team of horses and retired driving a big 4-wheel drive tractor equipped with GPS. Orville was also a very active community member in Simmie, volunteering his time on many boards and committees. Not only did he help with the building of the rink, but he also sat on the Simmie Athletic Board, the Sask Wheat Pool Committee and the Simmie Minor Hockey Board. Orville loved a good joke, rodeos, and hockey. He was never formally on a hockey team himself but he loved the game immensely, spending time watching his sons play in Simmie, and then later, Alan in a no-hit league, in Swift Current. He enjoyed NHL games on TV, midget games in Swift Current, and eventually became a devout SC Broncos fan. Orville also loved camping and trail riding, especially when he got to do those things simultaneously. He spent many days upon his horse, T.O., riding through the hills of Cypress and the Rocky Mountains. He was always up for a game of something, a horse ride with someone, or almost anything his grandchildren or great-grandchildren suggested. Orville was a quiet man, with a hearty chuckle, expansive, memorable smile, and youthful soul throughout his entire life; evident by the 6' fence scaling he demonstrated last summer. Orville is survived by his daughter-in-law Betty (Rick) Rouse, sons Brian (Grace) and Alan (Mary), along with 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, his sisters Dolores Saaler and Elaine Gee along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ole Martin and Alice Lavina Olsen; wife Myrtle, son Marty, grandson Terrence, sisters Alvina (Harry) Kantrud, Lorraine (Minard) Modien, Beulah (Allan) Huss, brothers-in-law Gordon Gee and Ole Saaler as well as some members of Myrtle's family. A celebration of life and interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Orville's memory may be made to the Simmie Rec Board. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
