Norman Honsey Obituary

Norman Honsey was born on the family farm, west of Cantuar, SK and passed away peacefully, with family by his side, at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current on September 14, 2021. Norman was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Joyce, as well as parents, Alfred and Bertha and his brother, Gordon. Norman is survived by his children, Arol (Brian) and Nora (Richard), his sister Betty Ann of Swift Current and Alice of Vancouver, BC. Norman grew up in the Cantuar area, but graduated from Swift Current Collegiate Institute (SCCI) in 1951. He continued to work on the family farm during the summer and worked different jobs in Swift Current during the winter. During the 1960's he worked the CPR rail yard. During the 1970's he worked at Swift Building Supplies and later for the City of Swift Current as an outdoor skating rink operator. By the 1980's he was farming full time. Norman met Joyce, through a mutual friend, when he offered them both a ride home after they attended a picture show. In 1960 Norman and Joyce were married. They welcomed Arol into their lives a few years later and Nora by the end of the decade. Norman was very dedicated to his family and worked hard to provide for them. He had a very strong connection to airplanes and was able to obtain his pilot's license but was not able to pursue his passion on a professional level due to being partially colour blind. He did, however, purchase a private plane and continued to fly for a few years. In later years, he enjoyed many First United Church Fowl Suppers and helped with maintenance at the church. Joyce and Norman often grew a large vegetable garden at the farm and enjoyed trips to the Cypress Hills and the Sandhills. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital. A celebration of the life of Norman Honsey is scheduled to be held as a graveside service as per his wishes. The family requests donations to be sent to The Meadows Auxiliary Cat Fund for House 9 c/o Eleanor Forge secretary/treasurer 308-230 Lister Kay Cres.
