Norma Tynning

Tynning: Norma Luella Sveum was born in Shaunavon, Sk on May 11, 1937, to parents Peder and Helga (nee Hanson). In the early years they moved around a lot and lived in several communities including Shaunavon, Dollard, Swift Current, Leinen, Lacadena, and likely others. When Mom was seven, her mother became ill and was hospitalized. Mom then went to live with her Grandparents, Lars and Nettie Hanson, on the family farm south of Dollard. From that time life became much more stable, as she was raised in a happy, but very busy household with her sister Joyce. She also spent a lot of time with several uncles and cousins who became more like older brothers and sisters. She attended Brownville School and over the years has told many stories, ranging from horse and sleigh rides to school to hanging Richard Wills in the barn with a fake rope to freak out the teacher. When she outgrew Brownville School, she moved to Frontier where she lived with the Gilbertson family for some of her high school. After that she moved to Outlook and attended the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute where she completed her high school diploma. While growing up with her Grandparents, she regularly attended White Valley Lutheran Church, where, along with her Hanson cousins, she developed her lifelong relationship with God, and her love of music. God and music were always important parts of her life. As children growing up, we sometimes wondered if there was ever a funeral that Mom didn't sing at, often either with Tillmann Moe or Ron Dyrland, and a generation of kids remember "Mrs. Tynning" leading singing every morning in the basement of the little white school. After high school Mom moved to Saskatoon, where she attended the Saskatoon Teacher's College to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She went to live with her aunt, Martha Pederson. During that time, Martha also welcomed a nephew from the other side of her family to come and live with her, Ansgar Tynning. Mom and Dad fell in love, and were married at Mom's precious White Valley Church on July 23rd, 1960. They lived in Kyle from then until now, where Mom taught school for 24 years, became very involved in their community and their church, made many wonderful friends, and raised a family. They had three children, Joy Moe, Ann Wandler, and Ryan Tynning. Joy and her husband Trevor have two children, Ashley (Schmidt), and Krista. Ashley and her husband Jonathon have four children, Savannah, Peyton, Parker, and Presley. Ann and her husband Gene have two children, Kari (Liam) and Kyle (Ashley). Ryan and his wife Janice have two children, Cory and Shaylene. Cory and his wife Amy have three children, Emery, Sutter, and Beau. Mom is also survived by her husband, Ansgar, and her sister, Joyce. Mom always enjoyed having family around and Christmas was an especially favorite time. She would always do her best to have the whole family under one roof. She often said that the fact that all of her children and grandchildren could get through the holidays without any conflict and fill the house with laughter was her way of knowing that she had done her job and raised us properly. Mom was in a serious car accident in January of 2015, where she lost two of her closest friends. She sustained a serious brain injury, from which she never really recovered. Mom spent several weeks in Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, then Swift Current Hospital, then back to Saskatoon City Hospital for rehab. She was moved back to Kyle and into the Kyle Health Center. Through an absolutely amazing amount of Love and dedication from Dad, she was able to move back home in November of 2015. With the support of Dad, Auntie Bjorg Arnelien, and many absolutely wonderful caregivers, she was able to remain in the comfort of her own home until December 2nd of 2018. As a family, we cannot express enough the appreciation we have for the caregivers that always treated Mom more like family than a job. Mom, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 14th, 2018. A funeral service was held in the Kyle Community Hall on Saturday, December 22nd at 2:00 pm with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. Interment will take place with the family at a later date. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the staff of Clover House at The Meadows, where Mom spent her last days.
