Nancy Helen Aitken (nee Eklund, div Clarke)
June 28, 1957 - December 7, 2024
Nancy Helen Aitken (nee Eklund, div Clarke) was born on Sunday June 28, 1957 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. She spent the first 2 years of her life on a farm near the village of Queenstown, Alberta. In the spring of 1959, they moved to the x-x ranch south west of Veteran, where she spent the rest of her childhood, helping care for her siblings and working hard on the farm. Nancy attended school in Coronation, Alberta until grade 11, when she met her first husband Bradford Clarke. She moved to Calgary with him and the 2 were married a year later on June 28, 1975. They spent the next 28 years together and Nancy became Mom to her 3 children, David, Michelle and Susan. During these years Nancy lived in Calgary, Seven Persons and Airdrie, Alberta where she gave her love to all through her roles as Mom, Scout leader as well as hotdog lady/school volunteer. The family had many years of love and life together as they also travelled parts of the world including B.C., England, California, USA, and Cyprus, Greece. On February 1, 2003 after their children had grown and moved onto lives of their own, Nancy and Bradford divorced. But within this tough time blossomed a new connection for Nancy when she met the love of her life Donald Aitken. They would happily marry on August 5, 2006 in Coronation, Alberta and then Nancy would move to Swift Current, Saskatchewan where she and Don spent 18 happy and wonderful years together. It was during this time that Nancy was again filled with the love of children as she became a grandmother and returned to work at Ashley Park and O.M. Irwin schools as a lunch hour supervisor.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents Dolores and Kenneth Eklund, and sister Lorraine Hughes. She is survived by her husband Donald Aitken; ex-husband Bradford Clarke (Marina); children David Clarke (Genevieve), Michelle Baer (Philip), Susan Clarke; grandchildren Alice and Benjamin Clarke, and Jonathan and Tedy Baer; her siblings Marlene Freeman (Ron), Lavern Eklund (Nancy), Percy Eklund (Carmen), and Janice Hatheway, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends she has cherished along the way.
Nancy passed away peacefully on Saturday December 7, 2024 at Clover House in Swift Current surrounded by her family. Nancy will be remembered most for her always caring and giving nature, her years of volunteering in schools, with scouts/guides and in her communities, and the love she gave to this world.
