Murray Gordon Robertson was born on January 28, 1934 at the Swift Current Union Hospital. He was raised in the Rush Lake district by his parents Dan and Margaret Robertson, along with his older brother, Don and younger sister, Jean. He took his schooling at Rush Lake School and after attended Vermillion Agriculture College, and graduated in the top ten of his class. He remained in Rush Lake working with his dad and brother Don on the farm growing grain, raising cattle and working at Robertson Implements. While in Rush Lake he met his future wife Betty Harder, and they were married on October 27, 1956, at the Rush Lake United Church. They made their home on the Robertson Family Farm homestead in the house that was built by Grandpa Peter Robertson. It was a quiet farm life where they raised their family of two daughters Terry (1957) and Dawna (1959) and two sons Brian (1960) and Dale (1964). Murray was always a quiet man, he did not waste a lot of words. The children learned that when he spoke it was important to listen. Murray loved the outdoors. Each Christmas he eagerly awaited a new pair of ice skates. Murray and Don would be out skating on any ice they could find, he was very happy when a rink was built in Rush Lake, and then followed by the curling rink. Murray coached kid’s hockey and taught 4H farming to the neighboring teenage boys. Murray had a lot patience with young people. He played ball with the Rush Lake Red Sox and hockey with the Rush Lake Rats and later with the Stewart Valley Rockets. When Murray and Betty moved to Swift Current in 1985, Murray continued working on the farm with his sons. He truly loved waking up at 5:00 am to go to work with his pocket full of cookies. After semi-retirement he took up golf. Murray enjoyed the outdoors. He rode his bike and ice skated for a number of years until it became more difficult to walk. The water fights with his grandchildren brought him great joy. He was so proud of his family and loved every visit they made. As physical chores became more difficult Muray and Betty moved to a condo, that was one of their best choices. Their 50th anniversary was celebrated at the United Church with a family supper and open social. The 60th anniversary was celebrated with the family at the condo.
