It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Joy Ellen Wallis announce her passing on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at the age of 92 years old, at the Shaunavon Long Term Care Centre in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. The graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. from the Admiral Cemetery in Admiral, Saskatchewan with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. Immediately following the graveside service, the family invites you to join them at the Admiral Hall for a time of fellowship.
Joy was born on Sunday, January 21, 1934, to Pete and Emily Lloyd. Joy attended Stone Cliff and Kemmel Hill Schools. At 6 years old, Joy rode a horse by herself two and half miles to school every day. She finished high school at Snowden and Teachers College (Normal School) in Saskatoon. Joy took piano lessons at 11 years old for several years. On July 22, 1955, Joy married Herbert Wallis at the Admiral United Church. They resided on their farm north of Admiral from 1955 – 2015. In 2015, they moved to the Prairieview Manor in Swift Current where they lived happily until Herb’s passing in 2020.
Joy taught school at Outram (Estevan) and in a one room school house at Leitchville (North of Dollard) before she was married. She occasionally clerked at the Co-op store with her dad too. Joy was a member of Admiral St. Andrews United Church. She taught Sunday school and occasionally played the organ for service, helped out at various church functions, suppers, etc. Joy served as home and school presidents, with five children as members, she was 4-H leader and worker for a time.
Joy enjoyed babysitting grandchildren, dancing, knitting, reading and walking. She also enjoyed watching baseball, and hockey. Joy and Herb enjoyed travelling and made many trips across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia to visit relatives and friends. As well as a special trip they took with sister Lois and Stuart for a month to the United States.
As a child, Joy remembers living in the large Lloyd farm house near Antelope Lake and the huge family dinners. That tradition carried down to her own home. She was always happy hosting her large family dinners. She thinks her family will remember her homemade buns and cherry pie. Joy always enjoyed when the grandkids came to stay and cooking them breakfast in the morning.
Joy is survived by five children: Barry (Brenda), Bonnie, Dan (Gail), Dixie (Gary Kendall), Doug (Karen); fourteen grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister Lois; brother – in – laws: Stuart Bangle, Bill Boutin, and Brian Winters; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
