Marnie Plewis Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Aileen (Marnie) Plewis on October 10, 2022 at the Herbert Integrated Healthcare Facility, with her family by her side.  Known as Marnie by family and friends, she was born on September 29, 1926 to Florence and James Hughes in Pennant, Saskatchewan, where she grew up and went to school.  It was there that she met a rather mischievous and fun-loving young man named Leon, who drove a loud and fast car.  They fell in love and married on June 10, 1946.  Marnie was a full-time mother and homemaker until she went to work in the accounting department at the family business, Standard Motors.  She and Leon travelled extensively throughout Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean.  They wintered in Florida for many years, where they enjoyed the sand beaches, watching Major League baseball training camp, and the Cape Canaveral launches.  In their later years, they spent the winters in Victoria.  Marnie was active in the community for many years.  She was an avid curler and golfer.  She was a member of the Ladies Shrine Auxiliary, the Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Phi.  She had a keen mind and enjoyed her investment club and playing bridge with her friends.  She and Leon cheered on the Swift Current 57’s and the Swift Current Broncos-rarely missing a home game.  When the Broncos scored, she would get up and high five everyone, while Grandpa Leon would start the loud chant “who let the dogs out?!”  Leon and Marnie moved to the Alpine Village condos in 1981, where Marnie resided until, at age 94, she moved to the Bentley.  She made many new friends there and got reacquainted with some of her old friends.  She enjoyed good health until a month ago, when she was transferred to the Herbert Integrated Healthcare Facility, where she received expert and compassionate care.  She celebrated her 96th birthday there on the patio with her loved ones.  She was endlessly proud of her family, always encouraging and supporting them in business, sports and community events.  Marnie is survived by her daughter Joanne and two sons, James (Pamela) and Greg (Dessirrie), grandchildren Janet Klippenstein, Grant (Jessica) Klippenstein, Neil (Meghan) Klippenstein, Ryan (Jennifer) Plewis, Mark (Erynn) Plewis and Jillian (Rick) Materi, great grandchildren Lillian and Franics Klippenstein, Mila, Annika and Piper Plewis, Campbell, Sawyer and Toby Plewis, Drew and Gianna Materi, numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Myrna (Bruce) Wilkinson.  Marnie was predeceased by her beloved husband Leon, her parents Florence and James Hughes, brother Lloyd Hughes, son-in-law Michael Klippenstein, sister-in-laws Louise Hughes, Evelyn (Adrian) Burgess, Margaret (Andy) Wright, and brother-in-law Morris (Evelyn) Plewis.  Donations to the Swift Current Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.  For further information please call 1-306-773-8831 or 1-800-267-6606, or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy to family members on the tribute wall.
