UNGER: Margaret Marie age 86 of Swift Current, SK passed away on February 7, 2022 at the Meadows. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The urn bearers were her great granddaughters Ashley and Devyn Garland, the eulogy was read by her grandson Jamie Garland, the ushers were Tim Berg and Jack Stuart, and the honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren Jamie Garland, Chris Garland, Jennifer Berg, Wade Unger, Dustin Unger, Anthony Merkel, Chelsey Stuart, Alyshia Van Kannel and Bret Van Kannel. Margaret is survived by her daughter Wendy (Rod) Garland and their children Jamie (Christy) and their children Ashley and Devyn; Chris (Steph) and their children Paisley and Easton; Jennifer (Tim) Berg and their children Hunter, Peyton and Ella; her daughter Cheryl Merkel and her children Chelsey (Jack) Stuart and their son Walter Stuart, and Anthony (Vanessa) Merkel; her son Stan (Shelley) Unger and their children Wade (Joaleen) and their daughters Lena, Julia and Aubrey; Dustin (Kelsey) Unger and their daughter Willa; her daughter Corinne (Gord) Van Kannel and their children Alyshia and Bret Van Kannel; her sister Hilda Rousay; numerous special nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law Arthur Unger and Bob Anderson; and sisters-in-law Doreen and Alice Steinhauer. She is predeceased by her parents Johan Christian and Olga (nee Schuman) Steinhauer; brothers Richard and Edward Steinhauer; and her husband Gordon Unger. Margaret was born in Vogel, SK on May 11, 1935 and she attended school in McMahon, SK and Swift Current. She was united in marriage to Gordon Unger on November 16, 1956 in Braddock, SK. Margaret worked at the Bank of Montreal, Greenhouse of Redcliff and was a housewife. After Margaret and Gordon were married they spent a short time living in Swift Current then various towns along the way, making life long friendships. Margaret was a member of the Ladies Birthday Club in Success and enjoyed crochet, baking and gardening. Margaret was a kind and very strong lady. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She opened her home and heart to all. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Margaret always put everyone else first in her life. She had a special place in her heart for nieces, nephews and very dear friends. Margaret you have a special place in all our hearts as well. May you rest in peace, free of pain.
