Surrounded by his loved ones, Leslie Allan Spencer MacDonald passed away at Herbert Hospital on March 28, 2023. Leslie was born on December 19, 1931 in Kelvington, SK to Oletta and Angus MacDonald, into a family of 3 siblings: Dorothy, Marion and Angus. From an early age Les enjoyed tinkering, making a harness and sled for his dog Lucky, making a snow bike with a ski instead of a front wheel, fixing watches and small appliances. His curiosity in how things worked led him to Radio College in Toronto, a career with Simpson Sears and then his own electronics, TV, radio and stereo business in Swift Current for about 20 years: Les's Servicentre. Camping and RVing were abiding interests over the years, its history traced in campers, trailers and motorhomes. Les played piano by ear and banjo in a dance band in his youth, later playing the Q Chord (an electronic autoharp) at home and at church. Listening to and playing music with children and grandchildren was still his joy, “Facetiming,” his delight. Leslie will be lovingly remembered by his family: Verona MacDonald, his wife and companion for the last 16 years; his daughter Donna (Barry) Rusnell, their son Brennan (Stacey) Rusnell, their children Mara and Emerson and their daughter Kelsey (Mike) Wahler and their son Milo; his son Wayne (Brenda) MacDonald and their children Katya, Joel, Graham (Michelle). Les will also be remembered by Verona's family: her sister Judy (Robert) Reimer; her son David Anderson and his children Anne and Jonathan Anderson; her son Daniel (Tara) Anderson and children Scott Whyte, Jacob Anderson and Joshua Anderson (Raylene Campbell); her daughter Laureen (Alan) DeBusschere, their daughters Laural DeBusschere (Shaun Dunphy), children Leo, Bree and Baby Dunphy, and Alana DeBusschere (Justin Galea), their children Leon, Nora and Sylvia; and by her daughter Kathryn (Bruce) Olsgard and their son Matthew Olsgard, and their daughter Mandy Olsgard, her children Kovey and Kealey Dumanski. Les also held treasured relationships with many nephews and nieces. Les was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Sophie MacDonald (Didur), and all of his siblings. Les was, and we are, thankful for wonderful health care workers who took such interest and care of him in his final several weeks. A memorial service will be held on April 13 at 2pm at First United Church in Swift Current, SK. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
