Leo Laturnus

Leo Laturnus Obituary

Laturnus, Leo Martin of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and formerly of Rosefield, Saskatchewan, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at the age of 87 at Cypress House.  The funeral mass was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024 from Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Ferdinand Eusebio officiating.  The eulogists were Dwight and Tyrell Olson.  The cross bearer was Kayla Myers.  Active pallbearers were Dwight Olson, Tyrell Olson, Kyle Kornfeld, Klinton Kornfeld, Rylan Laturnus, Eric Laturnus, and Evan Laturnus.  The honorary pallbearers were all of Leo’s coffee friends.  Leo is survived by his wife Viola Laturnus; children: Wayne (Caralee) Laturnus, Karen (Gerald) Kress, Bernice Olson, Howard (Bonnie) Laturnus; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren (soon to be 12); sisters: Dorothy Zohner, Pauline Gardner; sister-in-law Doris Geiger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.  Leo was predeceased by his parents Wendel and Margret Laturnus; mother and father-in-law Peter and Eugenia Geiger; son-in-law Melvin Olson; sisters: Rosie Rushinko, Helen Dumont, and many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.  Leo was born on November 11, 1936 at the Vanguard Hospital.  On October 20, 1958 Leo married the love of his life, Viola Geiger, in Rosefield, Saskatchewan.  He worked on his Uncle Martin Glas’s dairy farm in Vibank, Saskatchewan, Doc Dixon Ranch, Ed Prask, and several farmers in the Rosefield area, and then taking over the family farm.  Leo drove a school bus for over 25 years, from Rosefield to Val Marie with over 30 kids on his bus.  He was a member of the Rosefield Snow Plow Club, and the SSSHA (hound racing).  Leo loved riding horses.  He broke a team to pull a sleigh (Christmas), and wagon for Dwight and Heather’s wedding.  He also enjoyed wood working.  Leo passed away peacefully with all his family by his side.  Donations in memory of Leo to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan would be appreciated by the family.
