Larry Gilbert Grose, age 84 of Wymark, Saskatchewan, passed away Thursday, July 25 at 2:50 pm, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born at Woodrow, Saskatchewan. On October 2, 1939 to Irvin and Lydia Grose. That same year they moved to the Flowing Well farm. In 1947 they moved across the road and bought the Flowing Well Store and Post Office. During his teenage years he took on the janitor job at the Gnadenau School, which was a great opportunity for a young kid to make a few dollars for spending money.
Larry took some of his high school at Morse, and then went to work at Standard Motors in Swift Current. He drove a taxi for a short time and also worked in men’s wear at the Pioneer Co-op. He worked for Ham Motors as a mechanic and took some courses to eventually get his Class 1 Mechanics Certificate.
Larry then met the love of his life, Susie Fehr. Dad told us that it was “Love at first sight”. On August 5, 1961 Larry and Sue were married in the First United Church in Swift Current. It was a very hot day with a temperature of 105F. On Feb 28, 1962 Larry and Sue bought an acreage at Wymark, Sask. and in 1970 they purchased a new house and had it moved to Wymark where they lived up until January of 2024.
After 14 years of service Larry gave up his job at Elmwood Chrysler and went into the dairy business. In 1980 they built a free stall dairy barn with a milking parlor and all the modern equipment. They milked 50 cows twice a day until their retirement in February 2002.
On October 9, 1963 Rhonda Susan was born, and Rodney Larry came soon after on July 7, 1965. November 1967 Ryan John was born. He had many complications and passed away two hours after his birth. On July 21, 1971, Trenton Irvin was born to make the Grose family complete.
Larry’s heart was broken after losing Sue on September 21, 2023. He was diagnosed with leukemia in December of 2023 and after many blood transfusions and many hospital stays in the last 7 months, he finally succumbed to his many health issues and passed away on July 25, 2024 surrounded by his family. He is rejoicing with his Susie and he has found perfect peace.
Larry is survived by his children; Rhonda (Brent) Wittman, Rod (Allyson) Grose, Trent (Stacey) Grose. Nine Grandchildren: Shayne (Kelsey) Grose, Karmyn (Nolan) Carlson, Reiley (Chantal) Grose, Kelsey (Brandon) Krahn, Taylor (Kira) Grose, Rhett (Chloe) Grose, Jordan (Sydney) Wittman, Courtney Grose (Mitchell Braun), Michael (Raissa) Grose and 12 great grandchildren.
His brother Keith (Tina) Grose, sister-in-law Marion (Harvey) Engel, brother in-law Peter (Norma) Fehr, Harvey and Linda Seib, Betty Fehr, Marilyn and Lyndon Appleby and numerous nieces and nephews.
