Announcing the passing of Katherine Hystad, (Kay)

Katherine passed away peacefully at the Meadows on April 20, 2025 of natural causes.

She was born Emma Katherine Keller in St. Boswell’s District, Bateman, Saskatchewan on June 16, 1925. The youngest of 5 children to Adolf and Caroline Keller.

A hard worker, she cleaned houses and worked the farm in her teenage years.

On October 28, 1950, she married Mariett Thelman Hystad. Together, they raised two children, Murray and Kathy. She waitressed at the Horseshoe and Skyline hotels for many years.  Always working, she loved gardening, maintaining a large garden at home. A great socializer, she loved people and entertaining.  Another passion was sports. Kay loved watching sports and could talk about it for hours. She was always a loving mother and will greatly be missed.

She was predeceased by her parents, Adolf and Caroline, three brothers, Val, Jack, and Bill, and one sister, Marie, also her nephew, Bill Keller.   She is survived by her children, Murray Hystad, (Lavina), and Kathy Herriot, (Don) as well as various nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday August 6, 2025 from Warren's Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Patti Sherk officiating.
