Josephine Wallace Obituary

WALLACE: Josephine passed away peacefully at the Meadows on May 8, 2021 in her 100th year. She was born to Fridolin and Mary (Baer) Baumann on July 11, 1920. Josephine was predeceased by her loving husband Jack Wallace. She was the last surviving member of her family of: Walter (Elizabeth) Baumann, Freda (Don) Shaner, Kay (Walter) Head, Faye Marlene Schnurr, and Olive Baumann. Josie will be missed by her loving family. Her children Sandra Spielman and Neil Wallace (Donna). The grandchildren she adored: Duane Spielman, Dan (Misty) Spielman, Chris Wallace (Kelly), Jacqueline (Jason) Probe, Allen (Laura) Wallace. She was very proud and delighted with her 13 great-grandchildren: Trinity and Kloe Spielman; Cole, Connor and Jack Spielman; Toby and Theo Wallace; Dane, Celia Mae and Shaw Probe; and Charlotte Josephine, Quinn and Sam Wallace. Josie cherished the time she spent with her nieces and nephews. Josephine attended school at country schools and completed her Grade 12 in Pontiex. She then went to Normal School in Moose Jaw, it was an experience she loved. She came back to the Vanguard area to teach and help care for her sister Olive who had rheumatic fever. Olive's life was short, but Josie lovingly spent the final year with her. She married Jack Wallace in 1944. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. Jack and Josie owned the country store in Braddock SK and farmed there until 1958. They purchased land closer to Swift Current, built a home on Riverview Crescent and became city farmers. She taught private kindergarten at Ashley Park Hall. Josie was an accomplished pianist, artist, seamstress, gardener, cook and sportsperson. She loved to curl and played competitively at the provincial level. Her other favourite sport was golfing, she golfed her last game on her 89th birthday. We, her family, are most grateful to the staff at the Meadows House 8, for the care she received there. You were her family when we could not be with her. Josephine had a life well-lived and a life filled with much love! Donations in memory of Josephine Wallace can be made to the Meadows Auxiliary C/O Eleanor Forge 308-230 Lister Kaye Cres.
