John Thingvold Obituary

John Mervyn Thingvold was born January 10, 1946 at home, Section 31-7-14 W3rd. His first year of school was at Beaver Valley where his mother was teaching. He then attended Boule Creek and Cadillac schools. He helped on his Dads farm and worked as a farm labourer. He later bought his own land and cattle in 1968 and farmed until 2013, when the land was sold. The machinery and cattle would sell in 2014 and he retired to Swift Current. John married Charlotte Dixon from Cadillac at the United Church in Cadillac on August 9, 1969. Their first home was the United Church manse which they bought in 1970. In the spring of 1976 they moved to the farm and returned to Cadillac for the fall and winters. In the spring of 1983, they moved to the farm full time. John is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Charlotte Thingvold. His four children: Curtis Thingvold, wife Jennelle Carlier and their children Aspen and Sage, Trent Thingvold, wife Christine Thingvold and their children Paisley and Austin, Kelly Thingvold, his wife Heather McCrea and their children Alyssa, Bree and Corbin, Carla Bollinger, her husband Bart Bollinger and their children Hailey and Brynn, his Brother Delmar Thingvold, his Sister Cindy Strain and husband Tom Strain. Sisters in Law, Sharon Dixon, Ethel Dixon and Nelson Nagy and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. John was very active in the Cadillac community and surrounding area. John spent many hours driving his kids to various sporting activities. He enjoyed curling, playing cards, reading the newspaper, watching the news and keeping up with current events. He enjoyed driving around the farm, and later Swift Current, having coffee and catching up with friends. His Grandchildren meant the world to him and he attended their activities and enjoyed spending time with them. The Funeral Service was held Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 2:00 pm from First United Church with Reverend Annette Taylor officiating. The Ushers were Carrie Chambers, Shane Lacasse, Curtis Goffinet and Trevor Goffinet. Honorary Pallbearers were Morris and Wanda Jones, John and Gloria Fischer, Donald and Irene Fischer, Randy and Shannon Fischer, Harold and Lois Geiger, Gary and Dixie Kendall, Hassen and Ruby Hattum, Barb and Allan Evesque and Marlene Jones. The Pallbearers were Tyler Kendall, Chris Franklin, Jay Lamotte, Bryce Evesque, George Galloway and Darryl Fischer. The Interment Service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In John's memory, memorial donation may be made to fund the purchase of A.E.D. Defibrillators, C/O Charlotte Thingvold, 520 Battleford Trail, Swift Current, Saskatchewan, S9H 5C6.
