John Nelson Shiels of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at Cypress Regional Hospital on March 1, 2026, at the age of 85, with family by his side.
He was born on the farm in a snow storm on March 9, 1940 to parents Roy and Mae Shiels.
John greatly enjoyed his circle of friends and coffee time at Tim Hortons. He was often noticed by the community for riding his bike in rain or shine, in all kinds of weather.
John will be lovingly remembered by his family. John had a kind heart and a warm sense of humour. As with everybody, he had his struggles but he tried to make changes for the best.
John is survived by his children Morgan, Darrell (Shirly), Donna (Michael) and Darcy (Christine); grandchildren Patrick, Angel, Ryan, James, Kydin, and Jaylin. He is also survived by brothers Bob (Darlene) and David (Bonnie), and sister Judy; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Mae Shiels; sisters Myrna, Mavis, Linda and Alice; brother Alan and infant brother Sherman.
The family would like to thank Prairie Pioneers Independent Housing, all his friends and especially Tyler for all they did for John in the past few years.
A private graveside service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
