John was born September 4, 1951 at the Swift Current Union Hospital.  He attended school at Schoenfeld, Wymark and finished at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.  It was here where he met his future wife Dianna.  They were married shortly after on October 3, 1970 at the Alliance Church in Swift Current.

John, following in his father’s footsteps, began his professional career as an auto body mechanic.  He worked in numerous repair shops in southwest Saskatchewan and Alberta and even tried his hand as a business owner after taking over his father’s shop for a few years.  After suffering an injury to his back he was forced to change his career path and for the last 20 years he drove a school bus, starting with First Bus and then for the Chinook School Division.

During his younger years, John enjoyed numerous activities such as hunting, fishing and camping.  He loved to play and watch sports, especially hockey and golf.  Later in life he developed passions of which he would become best known for.  He loved his video games.  His favourites were Pokemon and Harvest Moon.  He owned almost every game and console and played them diligently.  He also loved trains.  He was fascinated with steam locomotives and owned numerous train sets.  It was from this passion where he derived his signature hat which he wore every day driving school bus and throughout town.

John was diagnosed with Cancer in early May and his downward spiral began shortly after.  His family sends a special thank you to Dr. Flora and Dr. Little and the staff of the Swift Current Hospital and Clover House, Pete and Sandra Klassen, Betty and Dave Fehr, and Henry and Kendra Klassen for all their assistance, Harold Geisbrecht for his dedication to John during his final weeks, and Cathy Habiak for her patience and dedication to both John and Dianna.
