Jessy "Judy" Peters passed away late in the evening on November 6, 2025 at Clover House Swift Current, after a courageous battle with cancer.
We would like to say she went to meet her Almighty Lord, and we're positive a higher power was at work somewhere, but who are we kidding?
Mom left on her final journey on her own terms, and met up with her parents, siblings, husbands, and many friends who went before her.
Judy was born Dec. 7, 1946, to Herman and Mary (Elias) Peters, the 6th child, and third girl, in the family. She enjoyed a typical childhood with her older siblings, growing up on 8th Ave N.W, and was almost eleven years old when another sibling was added. At the time, it wasn't exactly love at first sight, but Debbie grew to be the trusted sister and friend we all wish to have. Now, that's not to say that her older sisters, Anne Sirdar and Caroline Reid, weren't along for the ride and up for any mischief they could find. All during their adult life, these particular ladies were known as the Three Musketeers for a reason!
Judy spent many childhood days exploring the streets of Swift Current, from swimming in the creek at Elmwood Park, to climbing through all the unknown treasures at McIntyre's Junkyard, over around 11th Ave N.W.
At 16 she started her first job, at the Kentucky Fried Chicken, and it was there that she caught the eye of Andy Podolski. They married when she was 18 years young, and that union produced one son, Bradley, born in 1965.
After Brad grew a bit, Judy went back out into the workforce, always finding ways to challenge herself. She worked at various positions, including a clerk at a Fabric remnant shop, where it seems she developed a love and appreciation for scissors and shears, because as of this writing, there have been at least 21 different pairs spotted all over her home, it's amazing!
She worked with both her older sisters at Woolworth, was a packager at SparGroup, a teller at the Scotiabank, and eventually found her niche as a City Clerk for the City of Swift Current, where she worked for over 18 years, before her retirement in 2016, at age 70. She still received the annual Christmas Party invitation and would have been so happy to see everyone one more time.
Judy worked hard and figured she deserved a little rest and relaxation at the end of each day, which would always include a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. If it was a Friday, there was no doubt, the other musketeers were there with her. After the first few beers, and possible cribbage games, many, many, MANY evenings were spent singing along with the turntable and sharing stories! A few serious discussions, lively conversations, debates, tears and joyous laughs were always on the agenda.
There were numerous holiday family get-togethers, with as much family as could make it, and sometimes the girls were just as done as the turkey come suppertime, and they just couldn't let the boy’s win!
She loved reading Stephan King novels, doing crosswords, puzzles, playing cards, and suspense and horror genre movies.
She had to have her special treats, like popcorn, chips with dill pickle dip, ice cream, and every Chinese dish from Wong's that has shrimp!
She loved hard and could give the most deafening silent treatments that spoke volumes, but no matter what, you knew she had your back if you ever needed any help. She was always there for you.
She helped her second husband, Ron Funk, as he battled his own cancer, and after his passing in 2016, she continued living her independent life. She reconnected with old friends and had time for the new people she met along the way.
She spent many evenings with Cheryl McKinley, sharing visits, football, food, beer, and friendship. We know Cheryl will miss you forever Mom.
She loved her two granddaughters and was very proud of her 5 great-grandchildren. They always brought a smile and laugh of amazement when all the pictures were shared.
Brad and Marie's weekly visits were coffee for us, and the "11 o'clock somewhere" cold glass of Pil, and a cigarette. For Mom? Very satisfying!
When she started to face her own health concerns, she found that she could lean heavily on her son, and through many trips to Regina for appointments and treatments, together they found a new love for her - Tim Horton's iced caps, and timbits! You knew she absolutely loved this new treat, when she would ask if he had brought one for her, before the visit even started. It was great to see that smile.
Judy's charm and personality were undeniable, and evident to all those she had dealt with. Even as close as 10 days before her passing, she was making new friends and happy, as long as she could go outside and have her morning cigarette, or as she would tell her tablemates, "I'm going out to get my fresh air!"
Judy will be forever missed, by her loving son and daughter-in-law, BRAD (Marie) Podolski, her grandchildren ALEXIS (Scott) Steele, and RACHELLE Podolski (Chad Knuttila), and her great-grandchildren, Sienna, Soren and Amelia Steele, Berlynn Podolski, Keith and Unborn Baby (April 2026) Knuttila, brother Les (Doreen), sister Deborah, sister-in-laws, Corinne and Norma, nieces, nephews, special friend Cheryl and many others.
Many thanks to all the workers at Clover House, for the extra care they took and for the Nurses who made her last days as comfortable as possible, we are eternally grateful for your care and compassion, and you will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
A come and go visit will happen at a later date, where we can get together, visit and celebrate all that was Judy. If you so, choose donations to Clover House Palliative Care can be made on her behalf.
