Jack Payne Obituary

The family of Jack Payne, age 82, are profoundly saddened to announce his sudden passing on September 2, 2021 at the Cypress Regional Hospital with his family by his side.

Jack was born to the Geoffrey and Hilda Payne of Swift Current and was the youngest of 3 boys. He grew up working on his parent's farm and learned the value of having a strong work ethic from an early age. He attended school in Swift Current where he would remain for his whole life.

Jack married his wife Shirley in 1959 and raised two children, Randy and Laurie. Jack and Shirley travelled the world in their younger years but always took solace in returning home. Many of the trips were through the tire shop by selling their quota of tires.

He started working for Art Johnson at Great West Tire at 17, in a little room retreading tires. Years later Bud Moen, Bob Woods and Jack purchased the business. Then it was just Bud and Jack until Bud retired. Then Stan Giesbrecht and Jack were partners till they sold out to Kal Tire in 1999. He was not one to sit still or ready to retire so Jack and Stan opened up J&S Tire in 2004 where he worked until the day before he passed away. He loved going there every day, it was not a job to him, it was a joy and a pleasure.

He also was a farmer. Heading to his dad's farm after work and on weekends to help with seeding and harvest. He did this up until Stan passed away. The Payne Farm has been in the family for over 100 years.

A man of few words, Jack was a kind and generous man with a heart of gold who was loved by many. He was straightforward, funny, efficient, a bit of a rebel especially in his younger years and a proud man. It was very important to take care of those around him, especially his family whom he loved dearly.

His customers and staff are what kept him going in the tire business for over the last 62 years.

Jack will forever and lovingly be remembered by his daughter Laurie (Kim) Fowke, granddaughter Lindsay (Kyle) Thoreson, grandsons Tyler (Val) Payne, Chance (Teagan) Payne, daughter-in-law Liz Payne. Great Grandchildren, Veronica, Caitlyn, Harrison, Jack, Scarlett and his last one who was born day after he passed, Lou. Brother Ron Payne, sister-in law Bonnie Payne, Lorraine (Michael) McCourt, Karin Jeffries, Lloyd (Francine) Carefoot, along with many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his wife Shirley, his son Randy, brother Bob Payne, sisters-in-law Joyce Payne and Barbara Carefoot. Parents Geoff and Hilda and in-laws Elmer and Lenora Carefoot. Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.
