Ivan Anderson Obituary

Ivan Edwin Anderson passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022 at The Meadows in Swift Current. He was born to August and Hannah Anderson of Sweden on February 2, 1927 on the family farm near Abbey. He attended Venlo school until Grade 8 and then started farming with his dad. Many days were spent with horses, cattle, operating the combine at the age of 15 and visiting the neighbors. He took over the family farm in 1956 after his father passed away. Ivan married Elizabeth (Betty) Logie from Forres, Scotland on February 28, 1958. Together they raised four children, moving into Abbey in 1967 while continuing to go to the farm every day. Ivan loved to dance especially square dancing which he and Betty enjoyed for many years. Ivan kept an active role in the community and served as Councillor/Reeve for the RM of Miry Creek for seventeen years. He was also a long serving member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Abbey. Ivan retired from farming in 1988 at which time his son Miles took over the family farm. At this time Ivan and Betty travelled to Sweden, Scotland, and England. Other trips included South Africa, driving to Alaska, and numerous other states. They sold their house in Abbey in 2001 and purchased a home in Swift Current. After Betty passed away in 2013 he moved to The Bentley and then The Cypress House. In May 2021 he moved to The Meadows and loved the care he received. Huge thank you to all staff for the excellent care he received there the last few months. Ivan loved, loved, loved to visit family, friends and you could never stop for just a few minutes. His story telling and knowledge were impeccable. If there was an argument about history all you had to do was call Ivan to find out the truth. If you needed to know someone's birthday, ask Ivan. His knowledge and love of farming never stopped. Nick and he would talk constantly about what was happening on the farm,  especially during seeding and harvest. Ivan leaves to cherish his memory, sons: Bruce (Penny), Miles (Joanne), and Denis (Gay);  grandchildren: Wyatt, Wade, Matthew, Vanessa, Shari, Tyler, Amanda, Nick, Jeremy, Chelsea, Alyson, Brendon, Colby, Ryan and 21 great grandchildren, with one due this spring; brother Ervin (Bernice) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Betty,  daughter Lois, brother Albin, sister Millie, brother-in-law Gordon Tofte, and parents, Gus and Hannah. Ivan will be truly missed by family and friends. He enjoyed life and was thankful he was able to live a long healthy life with no aches and pains. Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.
