Islay Wiskar Obituary

WISKAR, Islay Elizabeth Margaret
September 8, 1922 - December 11, 2019
Our dear Islay passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital with her daughters by her side.  Islay was born in Watson, SK.  After graduating from Grade 12 she moved to Saskatoon, completing a secretarial course.  During WWII she wanted to contribute in a more meaningful way, so she enrolled at Saskatoon City Hospital for nurses' training, graduating with the 'Class of '46.'  While working at the Swift Current Hospital, she met a handsome young watchmaker, Ray Wiskar.  They were married June 12, 1949, and were blessed with two daughters, Sheila and Marilyn.  Islay was a lifetime member of both the First United Church and Local Council of Women.  She made many life-long friends through the Stork Club/Sewing Club and Fortnightly.  She enjoyed curling, prompting with SC Little Theatre and participating in Unit 11 at First United Church.  Ray and Islay enjoyed travels to Europe with the Canadian Jewellers' Association, as well as taking part in Antique Auto Club tours in their 1928 Model A Ford.   Over the years they also travelled to many 'Class of '46' reunions.  Islay was predeceased by her loving husband Ray (2002); brother Max McNab (2007), his wife June; in-laws Frank (Edna, Mitzi), Fred and Cy; and nephews Lowell and Bill.  Islay is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Rod) Smyth, Marilyn (Bob) Wourms; grandchildren Nevin and Kirsten Smyth, Jeff (Jessica) and Ian Wourms; and her darling great-grandson Gage Wourms.  Also surviving are in-laws Biss and Dot, June and Joyce Wiskar; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was always grateful for having married into the wonderful Wiskar family.  She really was the matriarch of this family and always kept in touch with relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to CNIB, 1149 8th St E, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S3, or the First United Church Memorial Fund, 223 3rd Ave NE, Swift Current, SK S9H 2G6 would be greatly appreciated by the family.  As Islay always thought of others first, we have decided to have her funeral when it is easier for everyone to travel.  The funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, April 24, 2020 at First United Church, Swift Current, SK.  Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.  For further information call 306-773-8831 or 1-800-267-6606, or visit our website at www.warrensfuneralhome.com and express your sympathy on the family tribute wall.
