Irene Nairn

NAIRN (nee Groves), Irene Marguerite age 90 of Abbey, SK and formerly of Portreeve, SK passed away on April 27, 2021 at the Leader Hospital. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 1, 2021 from the Abbey United Church with Catherine Christie officiating. The interment service took place from the Portreeve Cemetery. Irene is survived by her daughter Cathy (Ian) Vance, sons Lyle (Pam) and Larry (Joanne), eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and her brother Bill Groves. She is predeceased by her husband Percy, brother Donny and sister Mildred. She was born on the farm north of Portreeve in July, 1930 and attended school in Portreeve. She was united in marriage to Percy Nairn on January 24, 1953 in Swift Current. She lived on the farm north of Portreeve until 2001, when she retired to Swift Current. She spent the last seven months of her life in the Heritage Villa in Abbey. She was involved in the UCW for years, loved to play tennis, bowl, play cribbage, scrabble and yahtzee and never missed a curling game on T.V. She was an avid reader as well. She collected for Donors Choice for years. She liked to travel when she could with a trip to Scotland, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and numerous family reunions in Calgary, Fort St. John, and the farm in Portreeve.
