Helena “Helen” Skjei

December 9, 1949 – September 30, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Skjei (née Helen), who passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital on September 30, 2025, at the age of 75.  Helen was born on December 9, 1949, in Chihuahua, Mexico, and made her home in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, with her beloved husband, Paul Skjei.  The two were married on July 6, 1985, and shared a beautiful life together.

Helen is lovingly remembered by her husband Paul; her daughters Tanya (Daryle), and Dyanna (Lloyd); her grandchildren: Kolton, Karrington (Scott), and Averey (Zachery); and her siblings Marie, Isaac, Margaret (Martin), and Corney; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by other dear family and friends who welcomed her with open arms on the other side.

Many will remember Helen from her more than two decades as a waitress, most notably her 18 years at Casey’s, where she brought warmth and laughter to every shift.  She also had a talent for engraving, which she enjoyed in her free time.  Whether gathered around a table playing Skip-Bo with a cup of coffee, or at weekly bingo nights, Helen’s joy for life was infectious.  Helen had an unmatched gift for making others feel cared for. She lit up every room she entered and never ran out of stories to tell—each one told with love, humour, and just the right amount of flair.  Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she loved will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.  A private burial will be held for the immediate family. Friends and loved ones are invited to join for coffee and lunch to celebrate Helen’s life.  We will be having a small service at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church, on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  If you had the pleasure of knowing Helen, please feel free to join us for her celebration of life.
