Helen Hermanson Obituary

Helen Lucille Hermanson
November 20, 1924 – November 3, 2023
Helen Lucille Hermanson passed away peacefully into the presence of Jesus on November 3rd, 2023 just 17 days short of her 99th Birthday.  Helen is survived by her sons Elwin (Gail), Norlyn (Bonnie) and her daughter Fern (Greg) Howe, grandchildren Ehren (Karen), Byron (Lisa), Marlyn (Ricardo) Bravo, Darla (Halden) Lindbjerg, Devin (Danielle), Anders (Starlene), Perry (Elizabeth), Marysa, Amanda (Mitch) Lonnberg, Brett (Bret) Howe and Clay (Ellen) Howe. Also surviving are 27 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Alvin and Florence Fett, and later by her husband Elvinus in 1993. She was the last of a wonderful generation and lived nearly a century of history.

Helen was born in her small pioneer home near Pennant Saskatchewan on November 20, 1924. She lived on a homestead and completed her schooling both at home and in a one room school. She had aspirations of further education but chose to stay home and work and support her dad after her mom passed away when she was 20. She worked several jobs in Pennant. The Credit Union, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Village office all provided employment. There was also babysitting and housekeeping which meant she was often working three jobs at the same time. She also expanded her social and spiritual life and attended camp meetings at 17 Mile Bridge Camp. This is where she caught the eye of a handsome older bachelor, in search of a bride.
In 1950 she married Elvinus Hermanson. They began their life together across the river from the Hermanson homestead and began ranching and farming. Beechy became their business and social center although it was a 25 mile trek. Once her 3 children arrived it was too far to send them to school so she fell into her next role as school teacher.

In 1979 Helen and Elvinus moved to Swift Current for their retirement. She was widowed at 69 and lived 30 more years enjoying her church activities, her friends and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She served many years as treasurer of her condo association. She was complimented by many for her intelligence and keen mind. At 95 she took to her first computer, an Ipad, and was able to navigate many games and even Facebook posts and Facetime. Her faith and trust in her Lord Jesus was the anchor of her life and she lived with unwavering commitment. She touched many lives.
