FERRIS: It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Helen Ferris on March 15, 2021 at the age of 91. Helen was born a middle child of nine in the Swift Current district. Helen moved to Carrot River when she was a child only to return to Swift Current in her late teens and married Howard Ferris in 1949. Together they raised five children. Helen enjoyed the farm life, nature, and her annual bountiful garden. Helen was an excellent cook and natural baker. Her kitchen was a frequent spot for family, friends, and neighbours to enjoy her company along with a coffee and a plate of food. The farm was a popular summer vacation spot for friends and family. Her pickles were famous and her canned fruit, precious. She could knit, crochet, and she was even a seamstress - sewing bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses for family. She loved sports and she cheered loud and proud. She could be a poker card shark or beat you at a board game. She was an avid reader of novels, newspapers and magazines. She was a long-time member and volunteer for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Salvation Army, and Meals on Wheels. She was kind and she was generous. She was a woman of deep faith and lived her life accordingly. Left to cherish her are her five children: Bev (Rick) Snyder, Deanna (Larry) Retvedt, Neil, Lyle, and Gayle; 7 grandchildren; 7 greatgrandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbours. Helen was predeceased by her husband Howard and her son-in-law Randell. The family would like to thank the staff of the Meadows, House 11 and we send our deepest gratitude to Dr. Sam for his years of excellent care and compassion of Mom. Helen out lived all eight of her siblings, her husband Howard, and all four of Howard's siblings. She lived a good life. She was a good wife, mom, grandma, aunt, sister, and friend. The world was a better place with Helen in it and she will be forever missed. Due to COVID, a memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be sent to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation Inc. 2051 Saskatchewan Drive Swift Current, SK
