Hazel Brown Obituary

Hazel Lillian Brown (nee Onerheim) was born in Climax, SK and passed away peacefully August 30, 2021 with family at her side. Hazel is predeceased by her loving and dedicated husband Douglas, her parents Oswald and Mildred Onerheim, her sister Marie Schwandt, her brother Bill Onerheim, and her grandson Jeffrey Brown. Hazel is survived by her 4 children; Bernard (Marg), Robert (Cathy), Jay (Pat) and Jennifer (Richie). Hazel adored her 10 Grandchildren: Carly (Kelly), Joel (Brooklynn), Macey (Shaun), Jeffrey, Karen (Chris), David, Janay (Trent), Nicole (Courtney), Heidi (Sean) and Kevin (Shereen). She was blessed with 17 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Growing up in Climax, Hazel worked at the theatre and her dad's gas station. Hazel attended the University of Saskatchewan. She met Doug in Climax and it was love at first sight. They were married September 1, 1950. Hazel and Doug started their life in Climax, Sk where their first son Bernie was born. Robert and Jay joined the family while they were living in Swift Current and Jennifer was born while they were living in Vanguard, Sk. Hazel and Doug raised their children in many wonderful communities across southwest Saskatchewan and they finally settled in Climax, Sk where they would own the local grocery store for 16 years. Hazel was a realtor in the SouthWest for many years and was active on many community boards over the years. Retirement brought great joy to Hazel and Doug as they could freely spend countless hours with their grandchildren, entertain family and friends, and most importantly, relax in The Cypress Hills, Sk. The Cypress Hills was a very special place for Hazel and Doug and the family cabin was a popular gathering place for family and friends.

Hazel was extremely proud of her family and never gave up the chance to brag about their most recent adventures. Her laughter, wit and story-telling are remembered fondly by her family and friends. Hazel shared her love of cooking with her children and grandchildren and went on to publish two cookbooks.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Meadows who cared so wonderfully for Hazel. A family memorial service will be held in the Spring.
