It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harvey Barker SR, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on May 24, 2020 at Cypress House in Swift Current, Saskatchewan at the age of 95. Harvey is survived by four children, sons Harvey (Cecile) Barker, Gary (Loretta) Barker, daughters Sus (Kevin) Palmer and Joan (Don) Schmidt; grandchildren, Josh (Breanne) Barker, Amy (Travis) Moen, Keagan (Brittany Gaetz) Barker, Scott (Andrea) Robertson, Casey Barker, Morgan Barker, Kati Palmer, Erika (Lyndon) Egeland, Jodi (Dan) Murphy, Jesse Schmidt, Jenn (Scott) Mooney and Jacqueline (Colin) Burden; great-grandchildren, Carter and Blayke Moen, Korbin and Alida Robertson, Kendall Palmer, Connor Palmer, Lilla and Tommi Egeland, Evan and Ella Murphy, Jade, Jordyn and Jake Schmidt, Reiss, Rhaya and Lennix Mooney, Ryder and Gavin Burden. Harvey is also survived by his closest friend, John Watson. He is predeceased by Lilla, his wife of 66 years, parents George and Evelin Barker, brothers George and Gordon Barker and sister Joan Mohatt. Harvey was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. At the age of 16 he began a 5 year apprenticeship as a "Watchmaker" at Eilers Limited in Regina where he met Lilla Erickson. They were married in 1945. In 1946 Harvey and Lilla moved to Kenora, Ontario where he honed his profession at a Jewellery Store until the family's return to Regina in 1950. Harvey's next venture was opening a large watch and jewellery repair shop plus off site jewellery store with his brother Gordon and a mutual friend. Then in January 1968 Harvey and his family moved to Swift Current, purchased Brotherton Jewellers and reopened as Barker's Jewellery. He fully retired in the late 1990s, "handing over the reins" to his son Harvey Barker JR. While residing in Regina, Harvey was an avid Saskatchewan Roughrider Fan and also coached Women's Fastball. In Swift Current he continued with his memberships in the Lions Club and The Shriners and enjoyed yearly fishing trips to a group owned fishing camp in Northern Saskatchewan. Harv and Lil bought a Hobby Farm in 1978 where they thoroughly enjoyed working on their property. He loved farming, gardening, and beekeeping and was always looking for a project to construct or complete. Many family events were held at the farm leaving great memories for all Harvey and Lilla's children and grandchildren. What a wonderful legacy. Rest in Peace Dad. We love you.
