Gloria Rose Pratt passed peacefully in her sleep on July 1, 2026, at her care home in Swift Current. She was a wonderful mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her Jamie (Ken) and Janine, and son Shawn (Shirley); granddaughter Tessa (Doug); grandson Shayne; and her sweet great-granddaughters Sloan and Aubree. She was predeceased by her precious granddaughter Jenna, and husband Oliver.
Gloria was the first ever baby born in Craik Hospital on February 24, 1943, to John and Philipina Reich. She was one of 11 kids, and was right in the middle of the pack. When the family moved to Regina, Gloria met Oliver and they were married in 1961. Jamie was their first-born daughter, and Janine came 14 months later. Brother Shawn was born 3 years later. The family moved to Swift Current when the kids were 5, 4, and 1, as Oliver followed a denturist job.
Gloria was loved by many and in turn she loved all those close to her. She would show it by way of gifts, food, and service. She especially had an unconditional love for her family, and did anything for them especially her kids. Mom had so much more love to give when her first granddaughter Jenna was born. They had a special bond. Following years later were her grandkids Tessa and Shayne. Oliver and Gloria would drive miles to get to their activities like ball, hockey, volleyball, figure skating, first communion, and other celebrations. She loved her grandkids dearly and never forgot a birthday or celebration, no matter how old they were. Birthdays were important to Gloria and growing up we often woke up to streamers and balloons. She always made everyone feel special. Later came her 2 great-granddaughters, Sloan and Aubree. They brought her joy and she got to know them well through all the facetime meetings.
Gloria was known for many things like her passion for the Blue Jays and Roughriders. In particular, she was an amazing cook. Everything she made was delicious. She always made food for 20 more people than attended. Her motto was … “If there’s leftovers, everyone is full!” Feeding everyone brought her joy. She especially loved feeding Shawn’s ball teams. She was “MOM” to them all, and made sure they were all fed at every tournament they had.
Gloria was very strong willed and worked really hard. She was determined to get her first driver’s license at the age of 64. She started work in 1975 at Pratt Denture Clinic, and worked there until she retired at the age of 74. Her work meant so much to her, as did her patients, they were her friends. Many still came to visit and drop things off at her house even after she retired.
Mom had lots of friends but there were a few like Marie and Alyssia who always checked in and made sure she had everything she needed. Marie was a very dear friend to Gloria for over 40 years, and played a huge role in helping Gloria get her drivers license. She also had a wonderful hairdresser Diane, who was also a dear friend. Diane would come every Thursday to her house to do Mom’s hair and have a visit. For that we are grateful.
Gloria was a kind, empathetic person who liked to stay in the background she didn’t like the limelight. She tried to make sure everyone else was happy. Even in her last days, with the pain she was in, she always thanked the nurses. She grew particularly fond of her Care Aide Jaider. He would tease her, and they would laugh together and even pray together. Our family is forever grateful to him for the extra time he spent wither making sure she was comfortable and taken care of.
Gloria, as we said was strong willed and put up such a good fight at the end, but her body was tired. Thank-you to all the family and friends who came to visit Mom and brighten her day. It was always hard to say good-bye to Mom every time we left. We knew there would be tears. Now it’s our turn for tears and to say good-bye. We are comforted to know Mom is holding hands with Dad and Jenna now. Love you so much Mom.
