Gloria Harder Obituary

HARDER: Gloria Jean age 75, of Swift Current, SK passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, with her loving caregivers by her side.  The memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The interment service will be held from Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current at a later date.
Gloria leaves to mourn her sister Karen (Tom) of Hodgeville, SK; nephew Tavish (Laura) of Calgary, AB; and her niece Caitlin (Dylan) of Raymore, SK. And also, the many caring and thoughtful individuals that have loved and cared for her through her years with Southwest Homes, especially those during her stay at Sidney House. She is predeceased by her father Harold on April 25, 1997 and her mother Bertha on March 22, 2007. Gloria was born at the Herbert/Morse Union Hospital on August 27, 1943. She enjoyed being around people, some of her hobbies included liquid embroidery, many of us have tea towels and pillow cases that she worked on, she also enjoyed bowling at the bowling alley in Morse and later Swift Current. She attended a special class in Herbert School for a number of years, then along with some of her friends she made there, travelled by bus to the Southwest Abilities Centre in Swift Current. She spent many years there working in many of the different departments such as sewing and silk screening. She made many friends that helped her through mom's passing in 2007 and her move into Herbert. The following years held some big changes for Gloria, she had to deal with some major medical issues and adjusting to a new home in Herbert with Gayle Dueck. Gayle and Gloria, along with friends, were always on the go, they enjoyed attending church functions, fall suppers, and even ventured to the Red Deer Gospel Jamboree one year. They also enjoyed the spa in Moose Jaw the odd weekend. After Gayle's passing, Gloria moved into Swift Current to Railway House with Southwest Homes. Another adjustment which she adapted to extremely well. She continued to work at the Abilities Centre, she enjoyed this work so much and the friendship of everyone there. It was a very steady and stabilizing influence in her life. She eventually retired at the age of 70, but continued to miss "going to work". Gloria has always been a great lover of animals, especially dogs. Her favorite dog was her miniature poodle Fifi, she would spend a lot of time walking and playing with her.  Some of her free time after retirement was spent looking after a little dog that she cared for and walked daily. She still attended church regularly, enjoyed shopping expeditions, and going out for coffee and lunches. She always looked forward to visiting her sister Karen and Tom and their family. Always calling to remind them to pick her up for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and especially her birthday! Gloria's last three years were spent at Sidney Home. Here she had two other roommates and along with the "so special" caregivers. This small group became a very close knit family. Their shopping trips, spa experiences, church functions and short vacations continued. She looked forward to planting and taking care of the flowers during the summer, and Gloria loved it all. There will never be enough words or prayers said to thank everyone that cared and gave so much to Gloria. It is appreciated more than you will ever know.
