Glen Carleton

Glen Reid Carleton, aged 70, from Simmie, Saskatchewan passed away on January 8th, 2022.  He is survived by his two sisters Fauna Carleton, Lauren Mitchell (Gerry), his four children Jamie, Kevin (Tiffany), Erica, Matthew (Richika) and granddaughter Maleeya. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.
Glen was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1951 to Ernie & Delia Carleton and was raised on the homestead in Simmie, Saskatchewan. Glen's youth was full of playing hockey & fastball, cards with the family and helping on the farm which he eventually took over.  In the summer of 1980, during a local sports day Glen met Susan McLaine and they started their family. During these busy years he always found time to coach minor league hockey and was a passionate defensemen for the Simmie Spurs hockey team and a catcher for the Simmie Merchants fastball team. Glen was fierce competitor and always thrived on the camaraderie of team sports, forming many friendships along the way.
Glen was not afraid of hard work and managed a diverse farm operation that included numerous crops and livestock. His years of farming always filled him with a strong sense of accomplishment and pride. The farm was also a place he loved to gather with family and friends. Later in his career he transitioned into custom grain hauling where he enjoyed fostering relationships with local farmers with whom he was always ready to 'shoot the breeze'. Glen's work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond was memorable for all his friends and customers.
In retirement Glen focused his time on projects around the house, community involvement, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his generous nature, compassion for animals, friendly and approachable character and his love of Simmie.  He was a caring and proud father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at the Simmie Community Hall on Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 1:00pm.  Lunch will be served following the service.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Glen's name to the Swift Current SPCA.
