Gladice Roen Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gladice Mildred Roen age 94 on March 31st, 2021 at The Meadows. Gladice was born May 3, 1926 in the Tompkins District to Gawn and Rebecca Gilmer. She grew up on a farm near Tompkins with her mom, dad, brothers and sisters. She attended country school at Central and then finished high school in Tompkins.  After graduation she moved to Regina where she completed a secretarial course at Belfour Technical College. She then accepted a position at the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. After the war, she returned home to Tompkins and married Les McGregor. They settled on the family farm until Les' death in 1963. At that point she moved with her three children into Tompkins. Once settled, she began work at a local insurance office and the Tompkins Post Office. In 1965 she married Wally Roen and began a new phase in her life. In 1966 a new home was was built. The house was situated on a large lot and she was able to show her love of plants and gardening. During her life she was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, U.C.W. and the Women's Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion. In 2007 the Legion honoured her for her service with a life time membership in the Ladies Auxiliary. She also took up the game of golf, loved bingo, bridge, bowling and curling. She spent many happy days camping with family and friends. After retirement came more freedom to travel and were trips to Disney Land, South Korea and Arizona as well as many golfing and casino excursions. She enjoyed cards with friends, dressing up for Halloween parties, baking her famous buns and having company. Yet, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and take part in their numerous activities. In later years Gladice and Wally moved to Swift Current, first to a condo and then to the Revera Retirement Home until Gladice moved to The Meadows. Gladice is survived by her husband Wally; daughter Trudy (Russel) Campbell; and grand daughter Lisa (Duckbo) Shim, great granddaughters Serena, Annika and Elena; grandson Trent Campbell (Ricki) and great grandchildren Rastlen, Reilly and Nash; son Darcy McGregor (Arlene); grandson Les  McGregor (Mindy) and great grandchildren Deliha and Kempton; granddaughter Melanie (Brent) Kashluba and great grandchildren Malcom, Emma and Hailey; son Blake McGregor (Robin) and grandchildren Ian (Paula) and great grandchildren Carlie and Caitlin; granddaughter Marni (Walter) Adashyski and great grandchildren Hunter and Gracie; granddaughter Shannon (Jeff) Benjamin and great grandchildren Hunter, Kyla and Landon.
