Gertrude (Heinrichs) Mather passed away on Nov. 21, 2022 at the age of 98. Gertrude was born in McMahon Aug. 23, 1924 and has wonderful memories of farm living with kind and loving parents. As the second oldest daughter in a family of 12 children, mom cared for younger siblings. Our mom started working in other farm homes at fourteen. Mom and other siblings went by train to Taber to pick sugar beets, then mom worked in McMahon in the general store. Mom and older sister Helen moved to Swift Current. Mom worked as a cashier at the Modern Café. In 1946 she met our wonderful war veteran father Peter Mather and together they have four sons and one daughter. While raising children Gertrude worked catering and painting. She enjoyed community volunteer work with Ashley Park community assoc. and as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer, also as a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Mom always had fun with the members of her birthday club. Family gatherings and camping were moms special times filled with love, laughter and great food. Gertrude is survived by four loving sons and one daughter. Elton (Pat) Mather, Dale (Maureen) Mather, Judy (Rick) Shelstad, Robert Mather (Andrea), Jim (Lori) Mather. Loving Grandchildren: JoAnne (Andrew), Leslie (Joe), Karla (Dave), Ryan, Clinton (Stephenie) Vincent (Joanne), Howard, Stephanie (Clayton), Cecily, Kaitlyn (Cameron), Sierra (Tyler). And Great Grandchildren: Connor, Josie, Watson, Juniper, Callen, Kya, Josie, Hanna, Pecos, Rainey, Cutter, Emmit, Boston, Braxton, Legacy. And by: sisters Susan, Eva (Adolf), Anna (Ray), sister-in-law Dolores, brothers Peter and Dave (Edna). And oh so many lovely nieces and nephews. When we look back and realize the so many continual years filled with doing for others with love we know our mom really lived! Our hearts burst with pride and love forever. The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Warren’s Funeral Home.
