Geraldine (Gerry) Elspat Gerlach (nee Hallam), age 89 of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2021 at Cypress Regional Hospital with family by her side. After a beautiful and full life, it is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many, Gerry Gerlach.
Gerry was predeceased by her dedicated and devoted husband of 60 years, Jacob and her dear grandson, Austin, her parents Thomas and Elsie Hallam and her sisters, Ruby, Joyce, Gladys and brothers, Spencer, Frank, and Lloyd. Gerry will be forever missed by her sons, Dean (Valerie), Brent, and Clayton (Tammy), her grandchildren, Jamie (Bill), Jillian (Patrick), Darby, Jarett; and great granddaughter, Nora; brother Douglas, sister-in-law Ruby and sister-in law Diane.
Gerry grew up on a farm near Limerick, Saskatchewan where she attended school and worked for neighbors. Gerry developed a lifelong love and passion in caring for horses, dogs, and all animals on the farm. In 1953 she moved to Saskatoon to complete practical nurse training and dedicated a long career to obstetrics nursing in Swift Current. Gerry had a high professional regard and an endearing, caring nature to all the parents and babies in her care.
Gerry married Jacob Gerlach in 1957 and welcomed their first of three sons in 1959.
Gerry was an avid golfer, gardener, enjoyed walking and playing cards with her friends. She continued golfing several days a week until age 89 when her health declined. Gerry always had baking on hand for her family and knew everyone's favourite. She was an excellent cook and hosted many holidays, providing precious memories for her family. She deeply appreciated spending time with her family, friends and had a caring heart and a vibrant laugh that would light up a room. Gerry was proud and supportive of her children and grandchildren and would always go above and beyond in lending a hand. She was an active member of the Community Baptist Church and enjoyed volunteering with the congregation. Gerry will be fondly missed by all who knew her and remembered for a lifetime of caring and kindness.
A sincere thank you to the staff at Cypress Regional Hospital and Cabri Prairie Health Care Centre for the care they gave Gerry. Special thanks to her long-time friends and neighbors Pat and Lloyd, as well as Pastor Joell Haugan.
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 pm on September 22, 2021 at the Community Baptist Church with Joell Haugan officiating. The interment service will be held afterwards with family at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
