George Fletcher Obituary

George Henry Fletcher of Riverview Village Estates in Swift Current (previously of Eastend, Saskatchewan) died peacefully on June 12, 2022 in the Cypress Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.  George was born on the family farm just south of Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan on December 19, 1926, delivered by his father, Joe.  His mother, Marguerite, was a French war bride who came back with Joe in 1919.  George had an older brother Jacque and has a younger brother Charles.  He married Vera Anderson in 1947 and they started a farm of their own south of Eastend.  George and Vera had two sons, Michael in 1952, James in 1953 and a daughter, Monica in 1959.  George was active on the farm well after retirement age and moved into the town of Eastend in 2002 where he loved woodworking and gardening.  Throughout his life he loved music and dancing and always greeted the best of each day with a smile.  In 2019 he moved into Riverview Village estates in Swift Current where he continued woodworking, especially lathe work, pouring out more than 70 beautiful bowls over the next couple years.  George transitioned well into city living, enjoying the caring staff and new friends at Riverview.  A fall and a broken leg forced him to slow down in the last year - a speed that he was not accustomed to.  His health slowly deteriorated over time and when infection threatened his life, he knew that his time was coming to an end.  He was ready, and at peace.  He made time to visit with his family, pass on final words of love and support to each and thanked every caregiver who came to attend to his need while in the hospital.  He always said "I may burn out, but I won't rust out!"  George is survived by brother Charles (Jean) of Victoria, cousin Tom of Red Deer, son Michael (Diane) of Cypress Hills with granddaughters Jennifer (Rachel) of Medicine Hat and Lindsay (John) of Lethbridge, son James (Deb) of Swift Current with grandson Brian (Denise) of Sask Landing, great-granddaughter Darby-Jayne (Dayton) of Saskatoon and great-grandson Kaiden (Kayla) of Swift Current, grandson David (Kat) of Lethbridge, great-grandson Jackson (Mikaela) and great-granddaughter Julia, granddaughter Jill (Carrie) of Calgary, daughter Monica (Dave) of Saskatoon with grandson Scott (Brittney) and great-grandsons Rylee and Logan and grandson Benjamin (Kaylee), as well as many extended family members.  George is predeceased by his father (Richard) Joseph and mother Marguerite, his wife Vera, and brother Jacque.  A celebration of Life will be held at Riverview Village Estates on Monday, June 20th at 2:00 with funeral and internment to be held later in July in Eastend, Saskatchewan (date to be determined).  Arrangements entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home.
