BRAUN: Gerhard (George) age 84 of Swift Current passed away on January 19, 2020 at 8:45 p.m. The funeral service was held on January 24, 2020 from Zion Mennonite Church with Pastor Lois Bukar officiating. The organist was Grace Funk. The eulogy was read by Herman Wiebe. Reading was done by Joy Jarrett. The ushers were Greg Warren and Pete H. Dyck. Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The pallbearers were Dwayne Harder, Phil Braun, Warren Rya, Wes Braun, Edgar Peters and Jim Janzen. George is survived by his 4 children: Elma (Victor) Engel of McMahon, SK, Eldon of Swift Current, SK, Vel (Rob) Burns of Swift Current, SK, and Thelma Jane of Edmonton. George was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Katherina (Janzen) Braun; wife Mary (Giesbrecht) Braun; Brothers Peter and Jacob Braun; Sister Elizabeth Teichroeb; Mary's parents David and Maria Giesbrecht; brothers in law Henry Giesbrecht, Ron Wiens, Doug Wilkins, and Pete Harder; Sister in laws Maria Braun, Martha Giesbrecht; Son in law Marwood McDonough, nephew Winston Giesbrecht. George was born June 28, 1935 on the family farm near Rhineland, SK. George attended Amphion School until grade 8. At which time he worked on the farm with his parents. Then later worked as a farm hand around the area. On July 10, 1960 George married Mary Justine Giesbrecht in Gouldtown, SK. During the first few years of marriage they worked as farm hands around the Central Butte and White Bear area during which Elma and Eldon were born. In 1964 the family moved to Swift Current. While in Swift Current Vel and Thelma Jane were born. George worked for Cindercrete as a brick maker. Then went on to janitorial at the Co-op. In 1973 the family moved to an acreage just outside of the city by the airport, where George resided until his passing. George worked for the RM of Swift Current No 137. George was involved as a volunteer in the Alzheimer's support group and coffee break, delivering meals on wheels, tour guide at Doc's town, and the kettle campaign for the Salvation Army, also very involved in his church Zion Mennonite. George enjoyed wood working, going for coffee and visiting with everyone. He made friends with everyone he met. George loved to tell jokes and make people laugh.
